I've met Nick a couple of times at various events. Good bloke (lovely wife Alexa ...). His need for for adventure riding and fast endurance scenarios is quiet astonishing. I wish him well and would love to take part in one of his events. Good luck Nick.

Did a european tour organised and led by Nick. Thoroughly enjoyed it .
Nick is certainly an individual, some would say an acquired taste, but I cetainly enjoyed his company.
I an currently trying to read his latest book "Anatomy of an adventurer", not the easiest read in the world but enjoyable non the less.
Good luck to him in his quest. I would love to do something like that

I'm surprised I'm not familiar with Nick as LD riding is my passion. Best of luck. I know JoHn Ryan was denied record in his 56hr ride from Prudhoe Bay to Key West, so I hope he gets some recognition out of the ride. I did my own record ride a couple days ago, 3034 GPS documented miles in 45 hours. Well no record, but that goldwing covers the road like no other, but I'm looking to try the Tenere soon, I hope.

3034 in 45 ? Are you INSANE ? :D Did some chick call you from the other side of the country and say "I wish you where here" ? :D ;D

I did 1060 in about 15 or so hours.... That was good.... my ass almost broke off on the FJR...... :D

I think it was turned off as he traveled through the area where his group had problems during his last attempt.

I am waaaaay impressed! I have yet to log that many miles in that kind of time on a bike. Did Sacramento to Trenton PA in a truck 2,700 miles in 43 hours and 1200 miles in 20 hours nonstop in my truck pullling a 28 foot trailer. I know how whipped I was from those trips. I can't get my head around 3000+ in 45 hours. Amazing

Toompine, over the years with riding the bike longer distances than your normal rider, people always asked me if i got uncomfortable. Moreless, I didn't. I feel I have more ability to move around while riding than I can in a car. I think i will once again oficially try for an SS1000 when the Tenere gets here.

Agree. As comfy as the big GL1800 is, when I had mine, I was always uncomfortable after a while as I could not move around in the seat enough. My pillion ALAWYS liked the seat though - easy to fall asleep!!!

Here's Nick' latest. He pays the S10 a high compliment!
If he hasn't broken the S10 by now, I doubt I'll ever be able to (unless I'm being extremely stupid, which has happened, BTW!). :D

The first part is completed. I was 8 hours ahead of the record until 297 kms to go and the final frontier at the Argentine border San Sebastien on Tierra del Fuego, which closed at 22.00 and didn't reopen until 09.00 the next day. I lost the advantage and trailed in a few hours behind. Part of getting this right is working out a strategy that takes this into account. I am sorry if I have let anyone down. At 21 days 19 hours I am the second fastest rider to have completed the length of the Americas. The American Dick Fish is still several hours ahead at 21 days 2 hours.

The north bound route will be easier because borders up there are all 24 / 7. I am very confident of getting the record this time and the present holder has just been in touch and supports me. Compare 21 days to the Guinness record of 34 days....I have 100 of my clients who could do that - so I will make it a mission to have the American organisation IBF to authenticate it and select a European premier motoring organisation to recognise it on our side and will discuss also with Guinness. There is a story about 'why will Guinness not support a motorcycling record...'

There is no reason to fail unless the bike goes down or I crash. The bike appears to be exceptionally reliable, a tremendous testiment to Yamaha reliability, I am really impressed with that. Early on a young scooterist drove into me in Ecuador and I narrowly missed being wiped in a head on. I managed to get away with his handlebars clipping my right side of the bars and sent me across the road with a tank slapper and how I got under control against prevailing traffic I will never know. It seems to have twisted the front end, hard to describe but Yamaha Santiago are servicing it for me on route so I might ask for a report. It is quite rideable but because of this balance problem it makes counter steering difficult and wants to take me to the left.

I arrived in Ushuaia at 4.30 this morning and hit 50 kms of snow over the mountains which took me 5 hours to complete. I head planted into the side of the road and broke a bone in my foot, can't walk on my left foot, but as I'm on a bike it doesn't matter. Keep it in the boot and it'll be fine. Big snow coming so I have found an amazing workshop and expert moto crosser and he is fitting snow tyres with studs for tommorow. Will cope with a foot of snow, should make good pictures for the Super Tenere.

I leave at noon Wednesday 29th June. There will be no more blogs until I complete the journey. I apologise for this but the record is too tight and I will require every moment riding or resting.
Nick

That Nick is an animal - I am totally humbled by his skill and determination. There are some really incredible athletes out there riding motorsickles.
Its cool and crazy.. !! ! I have one little thought though... I've read that he is going for the record. It looks like he will beat it by 3-6-10 hours or something.. I think that's great and awesome! More power to him and his crew!! But I've read that he is sleeping like 30 minutes every 8-15-20 hours or something... I'm sure he is eating at the that same time. It would really suck if he crashed or hurt himself or someone else because he was too tired, Etc... I know ya gotta take chances, but not sure its worth what could happen cuz your just wasted tired.... Maybe I don't know every detail... Does he earn $10,000,000 when he beats the record ? OOOooooo' If that's the case, never mine, all good... the dude is the bomb... :D Or is it ego, bragging, sponsors?

Tabasco, he is also filming and recording parts along the way so he can make his book on it and sell it. I think he will also do a video.

Probably a little of all three, plus a touch of crazed determination. He makes his living from this stuff, but also it takes a special character to want to push the envelope like this - it's not just about money.

He made it to Ushuaia 17 hours outside the record time. Border crossings and snow slowed him down, sounds like not a single problem with the bike - unless you count the front end being tweaked after being hit by a scooter in Ecuador...

Looks like we'll be seeing how the S10 does on studded tires on the trip back!

That's ballsy... look forward to the pics.

I think the high risk of "pushing the envelope" is why Guinness quit posting or supporting record attempts on these types of undertakings. ??? A bit like any other high risk endevour - if you stay at it very long it will probably get you. :(

According to his blog he got slammed by a moped at an intersection, possibly twisted the forks, broke one of his left toes, and is on the road. Missed the record by only a few hours due to a road closure. Someone should meet him at the border with a cold drink. Better yet, water in a back pack to exchange on the run. Incredible undertaking.
