Hey all, I just picked up a 2012 Super Tenere on Saturday this past weekend. I've been riding for a few days and am getting used to and liking it. I am coming off of a R1200GS and there are some differences but most are for the better. I met a few of you guys including I believe it is NorthWest Cajun at the Altrider Event a couple of weekends ago. I hope I'll be able to get some new information and events out of you guys. Hopefully a more mature crowd as well.

Hey all, I picked up my new raven Tenere at the Litchfield IL dealer about 3 1/2 weeks ago, got what I consider a very good trade on my 09 Strat, and an immediate weight loss of 250lbs. I'm 57, I've been reading about and loving bikes since 68. First bike I drove, my best friends 73 750 four honda in 74, wow, next drove a right shift 750 Norton my dream bike for years, with intent to buy but found a super deal on a 500 kaw triple, my first bike. Next a new 76 honda 750 SS, new 76RD400, new 77 suz750 four, new 78 gs1000, 83 gs1100, 85 V65 sabre, 90 Vmax, 82FLT?, new 01 Buell cyclone, 87 Vmax, 02 Heritage, 06 Strato, 93 FJ1200, new 09 strato, now my new tenere. Spent a few years dreaming about a new Adventure 1200. I think the Tenere is a better bike, definately a better value, and once I get it adjusted, or I get adjusted I'm sure this will be my favorite bike. Been following this forum when I can for a few months, hope I'm not posting this in the wrong spot and raising any feathers, my online skills are just behind my riding skills. Look forward to many interesting experiences with you all like the never ending oil debates, getting this bike in the proper state of tune with a minimum cost etc, learning proper forum edicate, see you all soon.

Thanks for the welcome. You also have email! I'd love to do a ride down in SD one of these days. I will definately hit you up. Actually I may go down there to pick up what I need. Maybe....

@ Steve
Welcome and congrats. You may also want to start your own individual thread for your introduction! Have fun with the bike.

Hello all. I just wanted to give a quick opinion on the Super Tenere that I picked up over the weekend on Saturday. I purchased it from Del Amo Motorsport because I happen to know the owner and he gave me a deal that I couldn't refuse. Actually he wanted me to get the Super Tenere even before I picked up my R1200GS. At any rate first impressions for the first few days I've been riding on it. I'm up to 231 miles on it right now and have commuted on it for two days. Today was in the rain. Conclusion first. I like it better than my BMW. I know that the weight is supposed to be heavier than the R1200GS but I would swear up and down that it isn't. I almost want to weigh it just to be sure. Pushing it around, picking it up off of the stand, putting it up onto the center stand, it all takes a lot less energy than the GS. The balance on it is great. Slow speed riding is phenomenal because it is so well balanced. I can actually come to a complete halt and still be standing on my pegs for a while before I need to come down. I can roll along at less than 1mph and stay up without any issues. It's pretty incredible. I hated the seat on the GS, this seat on the S10 is much better. The ABS system is far less intrusive with zero chatter. The brakes are very strong with complete confidence in the front end. The suspension is stiffer yet compliant at the same time. Overall, it just rides better than the GS does. There are a few items that I don't like on it however. The drive-by-wire on S Mode is annoying as there is a sudden onslaught of power after about 2500 rpm that is hard to modulate. You have to be ready for the power hit when it comes on. Its almost like a laggy turbo from yesteryear. But, when the power comes on, the wave of torque it brings is very strong. Driving on T Mode cures the problem but with less power. More than enough for regular everyday use and it is what I have been driving in. There are two throttle cables coming off of the throttle that is annoying because it obstructs the bottom right hand side corner of the instrument display. It's drive-by-wire, why still use throttle cables and in a position that goes higher than the bars? I'd really want to talk to the Yamaha engineer who thought that was a great idea. Anyway, those are my first impressions for my finite time of being on the Super. Overall I'm glad that I got it and I do like it over the GS. I am awaiting some hard parts and I will be on my way off road somewhere. Anyone want to come for the initial off road foray of the Super?

Jeff right? I met you at the Altrider event as well along with the other guy that slid off the trail on the blue Tenere. Fun couple of days that was. Could have done without the mosquitoes though. :)

Hi Steve,

I met you at Litchfield a few weeks ago and gave you a guided tour of my Super Tenere.

Welcome to the forum. I believe the proper section to post your intro is in the section called, uh, Member Intros.

http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?board=6.0

Perhaps a moderator can move this post there, so we can give you a proper welcome to the forum. Or, you could post your intro there yourself.

Welcome Hisanori!
It was nice meeting you at the Altrider event. You'll love the bike. Get some heidenau's on it and enjoy that thing off road. Give the guys at Altrider a call , they will hook you up. As you know they are a great bunch of guys that make outstanding protection. Enjoy the ride and keep the rubber side down ;)

Hey lookey here. We have an online reunion going on! PNWSuperbeast, sorry, I wasn't trying to call you out or anything. ::015:: I'm glad I got a chance to pick your guys brains before I picked this thing up. I like it so far and I will definately be taking it off the beaten path. Probably more than I should be! >:D It's too bad that you guys are not in my area to go ride. I'm going to have to go search for some people around here in SoCal.

Mike, just tell them that you are saving the USN some $$ by driving and not flying. They will give you travel days and per diem ;-)

Glen, The problem with driving is the impose the 400 mile a day limit and really get bent out of shape when you drive down to San Diego in a day (that was a fun FJR trip, wish I knew about the Iron Butt stuff then).

Yeah, that's a bummer. You guys need to set up an event down here to ride in the desert or something and make a trip out of it! We'll do a get together at Death Valley or something when it gets a little cooler.

solarinsocal-san, much thanks for feedback. Most humbly suggest you would look like idiot and lose face in front of policeman if electronics went crazy and not allow you to shut off, so we give you cables. Electronics not permitted to override Max position of hand. As far as big cable, Accountant told me to use that and silly blinkers and R6 tail lights to keep price crazy cheap for other great engineering on bike. Everyone are cheap bastards with Japanese brand. I drink too much Sake at thought of it.

Or something like that.
