So A lucky find on one of the facebook S10 sites found a guy selling a set of brand new Arrow headers for £150. I’ve just got back from collecting them from Southampton. Even though I’ve got the Arrow can I’m going to stick with the OE can. I guess I should get it flashed now too.
How does the finish stand up to normal use? I’m pondering getting the downpipe sections cermic coated black.

Hi all.
Just put a deposit down on one of the last XT1200Z models left here in the uk. Don’t know yet when I’ll be collecting it, but it’ll give me plenty of time to read all things S10. A good mate has had one for a few years, but I’ve resisted till now. New, pre registered deal was so good it made any second hand purchase look very expensive. So when it arrives it’ll be joining my old BMW R850GS, ST1300 Pan European, 02 CBR1100XX Project, and FJR1300. Oh and my old CBR600 Castrol Honda track bike.
Something will have to go as I’m out of room in the garage. The FJR is a farley recent purchase as a replacement for the Pan, but the wifes undecided as to which she prefers, and they’re more for her than me, so she gets to choose, as I need her to be happy.
Welcome from Northern Illinois and another fellow CBR 1100XX Super Black Bird owner. I gave my ST1300A to my son for a wedding present. I miss it sometimes as it is a sweet sport touring machine. But I tour on the XX because I put electronic cruise control on it and it looks totally stock. A member on CBRXX.COM makes a kit. Upgraded the suspension and a few other things and now long tours are a piece of cake. When my wife goes we go on the 2015 Goldwing. The S10 I bought for long rides on gravel either in the Appalachian mountains, western Rockies or soon a trip to Alaska. How far along is this project XX?

Sorted my centre stand tonight……getting the spring on was interesting
View attachment 96378
looks a bit nicer with a fewcoats of smooth hammerite. Couldn’t find a powder coater that didn’t want a king’s ransom for a single item. Take a box full of bits and it’s fifty quid the lot, one item …..fifty quid:eek:
There are several tricks to putting a centerstand spring on. Easiest for me is to put a winch strap on it with my truck parked behind the bike with the winch strap hook on the spring and one on the truck hook. No truck? Put a strap around the front car tire and hook to that... or get a roll of quarters and put a quarter in each slot of the spring and that will expand the spring as you can slip it on and then just remove the quarters. Done!

So today was mostly about giving mine a full 12k service. Started with the usual oil n filter, decided I’d do the final drive so I know its done, well glad I did as its pretty obvious that neither of the two dealer services I’d paid for had done it. Filthy grey slime and quite a lot of gunk on the magnet. I will admit that this is one area BMW are better at….. putting their filler upwards so you can just pour oil straight in:mad:. I swapped the fill and drainplugs for some nice stainless ones my mate Charlie makes and had donated me. Shame he’d run out of vent caps though. Cleaned the front brakes, then lifted the tank to check the air filter.

Decided that 12k was enoigh for the OE one, and as I’d bought a new one I might as well fit it.
But first I pulled the air box, pulled the plugs out, but just cleaned and gapped them. Find it hard to believe they need replacing at 12k. Gonna let them do double that unless things play up. Greased up the coil packs, although there was no signs of water ingress.
My mate Charlie swears by Throttle synching, so before dropping the tank I had a play with my Carbtune gauge.

Close enough. Just couldn’t quite get them spot on, but this is way closer. They were around 20-24 before adjusting. Test ride tomorrow will decide if its any better to ride.
There is a bit of concern about fuel supplies in France atm, so Charlie decided to mount a 5ltr can on the pillion luggage rack, and after he supplied a duplicate of a fitting kit he’d made I’ve bought the same can.View attachment 96433
So after seeing tha Arrow can for sale on ebay, the Wife offered to buy it, so I thought ‘why not?’. So that went on next.
I’m planning a wee ride in the morning to try the exhaust, but I’m not convinced I’ll keep it. I use the panniers enough to worry what the exhaust heat will do to them aimed directly at the mount. Monday or Tuesday I’ll whip the back wheel out to take to my mot man to fit a new TA3 for the upcoming trip. I’ll give the back brake a clean up then, possibly new pads, they do look a bit thin. And I’d bet I’ll be refitting the OE exhaust too:rolleyes:
My carb tune was bouncing around like crazy. I just adjusted to where they both were bouncing on the high spots. Did the camera just stop these and the focus doesn't show a blur at all?

When you use yours do you pick the revs up off tickover? I was taught to pick them up to around 2-3000 rpm, the gauge steadys off then and gives an accurate reading. Not easy to do though, trying to hold a steady throttle while adjusting things.
The blackbird is on my skylift, has been for a while, but with keeping this one, the GS, the Pan, wifes car, my van, lads car etc serviced, plus household duties I’ve yet to make any further progress. FJR is going, but that also has had to wait for the final touches to get it ready for sale.

So I won’t be Cerakote ing my new downpipes. First company £90 each downpipe, second £100 each and third £300 the pair. They can stay plain stainless for that kind of money. Trying to search for Wiz flashes as I may be able to pop in and have him do his thing on my way past next week. But can’t search for three letter words….argh……

I have read about him, but not only is he nowhere near my return route from Moffat to Mk via Otley(the route my mates got planned for us), he’s twice the price of Wiz. From lunch at Otley we’re passing pretty close to Wiz, although atm he’s not confirmed/agreed he’s about as yet, I can easily drop out of the group and go see him.

Yes, I was at idle. I'll go up in RPM next time. I gave my pan to my son for a wedding present. Things were bunching up on me so I recently took to vehicles to the repair shop to make life easier. Hurts to pay that much though.
Was that you who rode over to WIZ and got your bike flashed?

Know exactly how that feels. Had my FJR in my workshop all year trying to ready it for sale, but theres always something else needs doing, and now it’s out of Mot so will need trailering to the tester as I dropped it off the insurance. My Ten has just turned 18k so thats due a service. Got the wifes cars brakes to look at and our MH needs a service before this years summer trip in Scotland. My GS needs a few jobs sorting too, so my Blackbirds looking less and less likelyto get done again this season.

Had last weekend away to Scarborough with 11 guys from my local club. But with the Ten on 18k now and due a service I pulled my Pan out having hardly used it since buying the Ten. Boy she feels heavy compared to the Ten. But after a few hours she felt like old slippers. My weekend so I was leading everywhere, all back roads and minor roads wherever possible, up through lincolnshire friday, lunch at Wickenby Airfield, over the Humber and on up to Scarborough. Saturday was back south initially then under Malton up to Castle Howard for coffee stop, then Helmsley and Stokesly and across to Danby for lunch, a zigzag route across the moors ending up above Whitby for an ice cream. Sunday home via lincolnshire again, but crossed the A1 above Stamford with lunch at Wymondham Windmill then a pretty straight route south home to MK. Not many photos unfortunately bar this one.
My mate Charlie was with us on his Ten, but he had to get straight home early sunday as he was off to the Pyrenees with his wife on his Goldwing monday.

Took the wife to Duxford yesterday. Not been for some years since we surprised a friend with a gypsy moth flight after he’d given up a lot of his time helping us remodel our house the week we bought it. Quite enjoyed watching this take off.
Only £3000 for a 30min flight:eek:

Off to Scotland next week. My annual meet up with a bunch of mates from various corners of the UK and Ireland. I was originally going up Wednesday and coming home the following Monday and then going back up that Friday with the Wife and our motorhome for two weeks. Last Saturday the wife anounced that part of her holiday was from this years holidays, but the 5 Days we were going to be away in August come off next years and she’d be losing about 10 days from the current year, most of which can’t be carried over.
So we sat down and changed our plans so we now go up together, towing the bike behind our MH, to just beyond Gretna Green where I park madam for the weekend. I then continue from there to the meet up with the boys at Granton en Spey, returning to her Monday. We’ll then head to our friends at Lochgilphed for a few nights ending up at FtBill for the last week or so. We head home on the 31st. Which leaves her just a few days to carry over.
My Tenere had hit 18k a while back, I’ve been using the Pan instead, but now I needed to service it and sort tyres. I had planned to leave the current pair for my trip with the boys and fit new ones in the days between trips. Now I need to fit new ones for the start. This aftermnoon I gave her the service, just oil and filter and brake clean. Needed new rear pads, just caught them in time. Odd they were literally only half worn at 12k, I guess the run hotter as they wear and therefore wear quicker.
The fronts however look almost like new still.81B15FFF-A1C8-41CE-8D29-CDDDDC2B51D6.jpeg2B20D3CB-82E5-4426-8E13-1DDAF63E17E2.jpeg

Hello from Australia!
I absolutely love riding around the north of England and into Scotland (even if I do have to wear wets nearly all of the time). So many roads going through areas where you can avoid the motorways.
Lots of dirt roads around where I live now which is just one reason why I wanted the S10

We love it up there. I’ve already been to Moffat for 4 days in April, this trip will be 2 1/2 weeks and we’ll likely get up in October half term to our friends in Lochgilphead.
