I tried to download this to my iPhone but there are no choices under year or model scrolls. It's all blank and I can proceed no further.

First - You got a plastic bag with your owner's manual!? ???

Second, just use a quart zip lock freezer bag. It holds up better, is easier to replace when necessary and fits under the seat just fine.

.pdf file on the smart phone? Riiiight, and then they will be telling you to create an excel file for your maintenance log instead of just writing it in the back of the manual. Never mind the tire log. And the list of Fu**tard dealers never to be trusted again. Oh wait, I don't let the dealer touch the bike except for warranty work. ;)

Off the grid?? ::012::

Not my PRIMARY reason, but a benefit. My phone generally gets better reception than my family's smart phones. I don't use a phone to keep me entertained, I use it as a communications device. I used to shove it up into my Arai RamZ, a 3/4 helmet, and be hands free. That doesn't work with my Arai Corsair. I do use an old iPhone 4, with no service, as an iPod. Holds a lot of music, and bluetooths to my Sena.

The Speedo on this bike, especially now that its in digits... the speedo is SO way off its almost pointless to use for accurate spead measurement.. I just use my GPS's speedometer. Otherwise you have start remembering "115kph indicated is actually 100kph" and "91KPH is actually 80" So annoying it hurts. I think something like this can be adjusted with a flash tune but who knows where it can be done in Southern Ontario.

Maybe it's just the Canadian models that are off, my 2015 is consistently correct to my GPS within 1-2 MPH. I understand that speedometer accuracy actually improved for the 2nd gen models with the digital instrument cluster compared to the 1st gen models.

It's possible, I don't have anything to compare with for a US model but when I'm riding at 115 indicated on the speedo the GPS says its close to 100 which is the "10 percent" off difference.. with a digital tach I don't see why they can't just put the proper speed in, what it ultimately does is cause me to go under the speed limit everywhere which is good for speeding tickets, but when people are flying by me because im doing 10, 15 or 20 under the limit it's unpleasant! I just use my GPS speedometer now so at least I've got that.

Before creating yet another "speedo is so far off" thread, look up one of the existing threads. The Gen1 bikes were about 8% high and the Gen2 abut 2-3 mph at 60-ish so roughly 4%. The Japanese brands give themselves this leeway so they can fit any tires, versus the Germans who specify a SINGLE tire model.

My new 2017 is off by only 1mph vs the GPS, even at 80mph. Another big improvement compared to my 2012 which was off by about 5mph. At least we should all feel lucky compared to the WR250R Yamaha. My 2008 said 50mph when I was going 35.

Interesting as everyone of my BMW GS ..and I've owned four have had inaccurate speedo's...as a matter of fact now that I think about it none of the bikes I've owned has had an 100 % accurate speedo...

I'm curious if I switch to MPH ...if it effects the reading as much ..

In Ontario I always drive 15 kilometers over the limit ,at only 15 over if there is some kind of zero tolerance speed trap..I don't loose any points on my license..once your 16 over ..you get fined and loose points which effects your cost of insurance .

First thing I fitted to the bike was a GPS..,it's at eye level so I dint bother looking at the speedo..

I love the bike ...

Can you switch the new bikes to MPH ? I know my 2012 can't.

Let me know if you can, from what I read before on the forums previously is the USA Models can switch to KPH but not the other way around.. we Canadians cannot switch to MPH.. Dunno if its true or not

I haven't compared the speedo to GPS, but when I set my cruise at 70m.p.h., it seems to be the same speed as all the other cars. I've also compared the Tenere to the FJR. Both bikes set to the same speed, on cruise, the FJR will "creep" about 5yds ahead in a mile or so. So if The Tenere is wrong, it's not by much at all.

The US Gen II Super Tens seem to be much more accurate for the speedo. The Canadian instrument cluster is a different part, and Canada has different regulations as well. Annoying for Canadian owners, as it is for US Gen I owners.

My '12 was off by 9% and I installed a Speed-O-Healer to correct that, accepting that the odo would then read lower than actual, as opposed to stock reading higher than actual.

My '15, shod with Mitas E07s, currently reads dead on, compared to the GPS. Odo is still off, reading higher than actual. (Good thing Yamaha warranties are unlimited mileage. ;) )

+1. A quart freezer bag under the side with the owner's manual AND the insurance /registration card. Don't need that crap often but it's there when you do. Watertight so no issues in the rain. Mine's been there for 3 years +... No need for a high tech solution to a low tech problem ::008::

I printed the insurance card with a copy of the registration onto a piece of waterproof paper. Taped that to the bottom of the seat in a ziplock.
