In Texas they finally thwarted my 30 year old strategy of having an out-of-date "inspection sticker" on most of my bikes.
I accidently discovered it as an asset when I was a kid riding my CB750 through a gas station to avoid a red-light. (Right On Red wasn't legal yet)
Got pulled over. He explained it was a moving violation as "running a red-light". Bummer!
He asked me why I did it. I was 100% honest and told him it was a beautiful day and my bike is running perfect and I just was enjoying it so much I didn't want to stop.
He laughed and said he had never heard anyone just tell the truth instead of some excuse.
He wrote me a non-moving violation ticket instead. (expired inspection sticker) $22.00 and no insurance rate hike. I was 16. That was really important.
I made it a habit. For years.
Recently they got rid of the sticker and you get your inspection and it is entered into a state-wide database. No sticker. But if you aren't in the database, no new registration!
Not sure it's a good idea anymore.
