need part number for map sensor

Hi guys,

as a few know my bikes back at the garage after the mccruise was chucking a warning light on, mechanic has come back after testing a few things saying i need a map sensor do any you off hand know the part number for the map sensor and do i go oem or after market

yes,
the guy thats on the bike is being helped by mccruise and the warning light coming on and a bit of stuttering etc is ointing map sensor

Hi Rob! We've narrowed it down to a MAP sensor fault. We've tested the sensor, and can get the values to change which indicates that the ECU IS taking readings from it. We've unplugged it, and test ridden without it in the loop - obviously the engine warning light illuminates straight away, but the bike rides perfectly. That is similar to the stuttering problem disappearing once the engine warning light illuminated with you - the ECU stops taking readings from that sensor, and uses stored values instead. We, or you, can order a new MAP sensor to fit and hopefully solve the issue, but I have to note that there may be further issues due to your flashed ECU - we don't know what (if any) differences that may make to the system.

really don,t know when i rode the bike to the shop over a hour the warning light didn,t come on and never had, know the warning light is coming on every time you ride it about 10 miles into the ride,

I think the part number is 1WS-82380-00-00. I wasn't sure what year your bike is, so that's the sensor for a 2014 (the year of my Super Tenere). It's listed on Rocky Mountain ATV's website as "Sensor, Pressure". The one I'm referring to is Number 7 in the diagram.

OEM price is $137 from Rocky Mountain. I know you're in the UK, so that's kind of irrelevant to you. I looked on Amazon and did see several aftermarket replacements for that part number, though their quality is unknown to me.

I've only had one experience with aftermarket sensors when I had to replace an O2 sensor in a Huyndai Elantra. The sensor would not correct the problem, and eventually I had to buy an OEM sensor which fixed the issue.

over here that part number 7 is £167 aftermarket is £25-30 but you know everyone says no to aftermarket

I am absolutely the ninja master of "I wonder if a cheaper part will do the trick", but I would probably bite the bullet and go with OEM unless someone could provide a really trustworthy recommendation for an aftermarket one.

Before you buy a new one, you can try to clean the MAP sensor. I learned about this after I paid about $170 for a mass air flow sensor for my Camry. I didn't know beforehand that they could be cleaned and that sometimes that would fix the problem (Toyota sure didn't point that out to me LOL). I might try to clean my old one before spending big coin on a new OEM one.

This is interesting to me... #7 is a pressure switch that works off vacuum.... What you describe is what sounds just like what a friend of mine had an issue with...... We found it to be #10..... At the time the OEM was back ordered, he ordered a "knock off" and it worked until he sold the bike 1.5 years later......

(Side note that does not pertain to this conversation really) When we determined that #10 was the issue, we opened up the 'box' and cleaned it... It was really dirty. Getting that box open is NOT a good idea. You basically have to cut the darn thing open... We proceeded, and cleaned the inside, it did temporarily fix his bike. We confirmed we are on the right track and he just bought a new one.... Don't try and open and clean #10....

Another easy "test" is try this..... #7 being a vacuum sensor is easy to test. Pull off the hose, it acts the same as you currently have the sensor is probably bad. If it does not act the same the sensor is just fine. If you unplug the hose from #7 when the engine is running it will buck like a bronco.... plug it back in and it's smooth running.......... Easy test...... (don't ask me how I found this out !........ LOL )

Does the CC tap into the vacuum line attached to the MAP sensor? If so, don’t overlook a vacuum leak somewhere. Maybe a hose or something is expanding and loosening or a split is opening as the engine heats up? Might explain the 10 minute delay in seeing the error.

The right throttle body rubber nipple cracks all the time. Good idea to eye ball that as well.
