I had the day off today, so got to install a few more of the farkles that have been waiting patiently in my garage for months. Almost everything is from Twisted Throttle and it is all Kev's fault. The year started off with my winning the SW-Motech skid plate donated by Kevin and TT. I liked it a lot and even had it powdercoated black, as I planned ot have mostly black trim on my blue bike. After scrutinizing many choices of hard bags and crash bars at the Indy Dealer Show, I decided to stick with SW-Motech. My dealer, Niehaus Cycles even got a Twisted Throttle dealership, as we planned to outfit one of our extra bikes with the full set of Super Tenere farkles, as well as promote those products for our customers. Long story short, I sold all the S10's before they arrived and two of the buyers chose the SW-Motech items, as did I and now we don't have a bike for the showroom. We have had several inquiries and purchases of the TT items and we hope to expand on that line.

Anyway, here is my bike with the SW-M skid plate, crash bars, luggage racks with Trax bags, MRA screen mounted on a Wasp adjustable bracket and Kaoko throttle lock, plus Yamaha tank bag. I still have to install the Yamaha wind wings and I think I am done for now. Oh, yeah, I also bought the Yamaha "sport horn" that Yamaha lists under the S10 accessories and I'll get that mounted soon.

In another thread I mentioned that with the first bike we set up with the SW-M racks, we weren't sure what to do to mount the license plate, as you have to remove the OEM bracket to fit the cross piece. After thinking about it for a bit, the answer is simple. I just drilled two holes outboard of the original holes in the fender where the OEM bracket mounted. The new holes are the same distance as the original license plate holes, so I never have to drill plates when I install them. Overall I am very impressed with the engineering and quality of the SW-Motech products as well as their clear pictorial instructions.

I also did the rear carrier mod and mounted my old KLR tail pack. This has been very handy for me in the past for everyday errends. It is expandable and can carry quite a bit.

Good job there Fred! Looking forward to hearing how you like the MRA with Wasp mount.

That wind screen with Wasps adjuster looks like it will work great.

Nice Fred!

Looks great Fred! From the looks of those crash bars I think you could put some highway pegs on them. Those might be exactly what I need. Thanks for the pics!

Yes, I believe that Twisted Throttle does have highway pegs to fit those bars. I'll have to look into that before my first long trip.

That's an extremely nice and efficient looking setup Fred... Might have to follow suit with that one.

My experience with the adjuster suggest that the bottom of the screen should be pivoted forward nearly to a line vertical with the front of the headlight.
The top could be swing back (to taste) and I think you could then drop it down nearly to the lowest height and adjust the top foil to have a very slick and wind efficient setup.

Greg.

Thanks Greg. Now that I have most of my farkles installed, I should have more time for a bit of riding, which would include trying some of the many, many adjustments with the screen. I normally don't have the top foil that high, I just finished cleaning it and that is easier to do with it extended. I still have two 20 mm screws in one side of the screen and hope that the well nuts collapse enough that I can put the proper silver 16 mm screws in and then I will be able to tilt it back further in the lower position.

Thanks a lot for the feedback and for the suggestions.

Vince, measuring from the mounting bolts, it is about 2 inches higher. It has to be mounted in the highest position if using the OEM racks. If you try to install in the lower position like the OEM one, it extends too far down and you cannot install the screws.

Thanks Fred that helps good info now I can also compare to the large Cal Sci. I really like the look of your tinted shield but need it to function for me as well in the wind. I sit pretty high in the saddle.

I can try to get a more accurate measurement this evening, Vince. I feel that it is best to measure from the mounting holes to the top, as the bottoms of each is shaped differently, so it is difficult to know where to measure from the bottoms for a direct comparison.

Just for comparison, the large CalSci screen fits in the lower mounting postion. I may raise it just see the difference, but there will definately be airflow under the screen when I do that.

Fred that would be great if you could and it's appreciated. Just to clarify are you measuring from the top screws up to the top of the shield or from the bottom screws up?

There is still airflow under the screen with the MRA in the upper mounts, due to the shape of the lower edge. It will be interesting to hear feedback about the Calsci. Are you considering the tallest version?

I also did not like the stock screen; Air was coming over the top hitting me on the forehead making a lot of turbulence in the helmet. I upgraded to the MRA VarioTouringScreen from TT.

Vince, here's a photo with my daughter holding the stock screen over the MRA....the MRA screen is maybe an inch higher than stock, and with the spoiler at the highest setting, adds an extra inch deflecting wind over the top of the helmet, drastically reducing (maybe eliminating?) turbulence.

I've got 800 miles planned for this weekend, so I'll post LD reports when I return.
