I am looking to buy a Yamaha super tenere. My 2000 Honda Vfr 800 will do anything from 55 to 62mpg.I would like to know what miles per gallon(4.5 litres) riders of the super tenere are getting.as I have seen MCN printing 50mpg average.

If I'm training where everything is quite 'restrained' I regularly see 58mpg, if I press on a bit I get around the same as Rob.

The best I've managed has been 64mpg but it was a very slow boring ride!

Ahh that's good.with fuel prices in the UK the way they are now I did not want to buy a bike I loved which did 40mpg.Im turn between the electronic suspension/cruise control or the standard suspension model now.I like idea of the cruise control but not the electronic suspension as more things to go wrong.Im surprised how expensive these bikes are secondhand age/mileage compared to a Honda CRF 1000 Africa twin.

Over the last 100.000 miles my T12 have averaged 50 mpg (calculated).

It would be helpful to confirm which gallon unit is being spoken of. An Imperial gallon is 1.2 times larger than a U.S. gallon, so you'll get 20% better mileage by default with the Imperial gallon. I do not believe it is likely to get 60mpg (U.S. gallons) on a S10, unless riding very kindly and in mild conditions.

I get 4.2L/100km or 56mpg all day long on tarmac.
Loaded with gear 4.5L/100 or 52mpg.
Off road, it varies but drops, seen as low as 6L/100km or 39mpg.

Has anyone had any problems with their Super Tenere? My current bike is a 2006 Honda Fireblade with 86000 miles on it.I had to replace the fork bushes and seals.chain and sprockets once.So the Super Tenere has got to be a mega reliable bike to beat that.

I filled up today at 204.4 miles with 4.6gal. A slight increase in mileage. It could be either that it's increase with the heat expansion . . . . or that this tank didn't have as much time into triple digits. The other day when I was leaving, my range to empty showed 531mi. And that was 45mi already on the tank. Confirming the range gauge is about useless.

I was going to answer in the 'Real World MPG' a few threads back, but this is a newer thread.
Backstory:
These pictures are from today. The tank was filled last Sunday coming home from an awesome trip. (When I filled the tank the last time, I only filled it to the top of where the nozzle goes.)

This is when the miles traveled, when the last bar started blinking.

This is my average and miles traveled from that last fill-up. Now, to refuel.

Fuel is to the top of the nozzle hole.

20220712_134528.jpg
This is how much fuel went into the tank, to that nozzle hole.
Technically, I still had almost another gallon of fuel. So I could've reached 280 miles, if I was easy on the throttle. Now, what I did was, fill almost another half gallon of fuel.
20220712_134749.jpg
It's to the top. Not, spilling over top, but no fuel went through the hose to the ground.

There is the amount to the top. So, theoretically, maintaining my 48 mpg, kind of without trying, 280 miles out of a tank is possible.
I know I don't have to start sweating, if my average MPG is above 45mpg and I'm at 230miles.
Hope this helps and you all don't mind my babbling. Enjoy the day and the ride.

My last bar starts blinking at about 180+/- miles. I refill at about 200mi just so I don't ever have to worry. The only time, for me, that the indicated average matches the calculated is when I spend a lot of time on cruise. Being that everything I drive is a manual, coasting up to a stop light/sign or using engine braking and such, artificially inflates mileage averages.

40 mpg has been about my lowest, did one 3,000 mile trip that averaged 52 mpg but we mostly traveled miserably slow, my 2018 does usually get better mpg than my 2013 did.
yes lots of times the Tenere mpg meter shows crazy high numbers but whenever I want to know the actual mpg I figure it out with a calculator.

In Europe our gallon is 4.8 litres yours is just under 3.8 litres. So your bike that day would of done 54mpg here. Our gas is €8.97 for a USA Gallon at todays exchange rate
