Probably already been mentioned somewhere, but I couldn't find any using the "Search" function, so just in case...

Looks like Moose Racing has decided to make some seats for the Super Ténéré:

  • Rugged micro-fiber suede top cover provides rider comfort and confidence
  • Side gripper panes keep you aboard during aggressive maneuvering
  • Smooth marine-grade vinyl with debossed Moose Racing logo
  • Comes with strap kit that enables you to confidently secure cargo to the pillion section of your seat
  • Made in the USA

I don't own one, haven''t tried one, or even seen one in person. Just thought some of the inmates here might be interested.

Hope it helps!

It looks and sounds like they took a stock seat, put a new cover on it with a Moose racing logo, and decided to charge $350-$525...Oh...and threw in a strap kit.

Hmmmmmmm... I dunno'...

To me it definitely looks higher at the front, as well being a bit narrower with a different leg slope there, too, as well as being wider at the back. You can see it also has a black seat pan base material instead of the OEM white.

But again, I haven't seen one, tried one, or even necessarily want one. Just observing.

I don't envy cleaning the "micro-fiber suede top cover". I'm still trying to clean the dirt off of my stock seat cover from my last off road excursion.

That looks pretty cool... I hope they didn't use the same foam that Corbin uses... My bony butt cant stand that.... Ive built custom motorcycle saddles for 12+ years... Im thinking of doing some trimming on mine and do a recover.. Should be cool....

Don't know the last time you rode a Corbin but a few years ago they changed their foam to softer material. A couple years ago, while having lunch at Corbin Hollister, I mentioned the softer foam to the shop foreman. He had me pull my KLR into the shop then added a layer of the new material to my seat. He used the same leather cover. Zero cost and a softer ride.

You must be a skinny dude. ;) Do you actually have a Renazco seat on your Super Tenere? If so, what kind of distance have you ridden on it? Pictures?

I don't see any Super Tens in their photo gallery, LINKY

Note that they use viscoelastic, (a.k.a. Memory), foam in their seats in different densities. This is fine for the lighter guys, say <200 lbs. For those of us heavier than that, especially living/riding in hot climates, it just goes soft and fails to support the rider effectively.

"The number one complaint made by users of visco elastic foam products is the excessive heat generated by use. Because the material is heat sensitive, it traps heat within its open cells."
from Here

On the Moose Racing seat, I'd be more interested if they at least talked about the foam or build up of the seat instead of just the cover. It may be shaped differently, but they cranked out a bunch of them, apparently. Who knows what they were aiming for and what their target rider weight was?

Not skinny but short. 5'7" about 170 lbs. Got one for my DR 650 to do the CDR, sold the DR but kept the seat and now my dad has it one his. My buddy had a DR as well and he be 200 ish, no complains outta us or another that had a RR seat for his KTM 640. Heat? Never been a issue and we live in the sweat box of the Mid-South, I think that a custom seat makes or breaks a bike, who wants to spend a 10 hour day on a bike just to be too sore to ride the next day? I mean even a poser that rides on the pegs on a nice long flat dirt road needs comfort.

As for my ST seat I called and talked to James before ordering mine, he knew I was a repeat cust and said he would put me together a great seat. Honestly it is in a fedex box and needs to be installed, I can post a pict when is is on.

Would love to see a pic patrickg. And hope to get some feedback when you have ridden it some.

For frame of reference, I'm 250 w/o gear. So to me, you are skinny. :D I had a Cee Bailey's seat that was made with memory foam. When the temps were over 100F, which is a lot of the time here in Southern Utah, the foam would just collapse and it was no better for me than the stock seat. Well, a little better, but not the $350 I spent on it better. I need to call up Russell again and see about getting on their schedule.

I've had a Russell on the FJR in the past and was happy with it. Lots of 1k days and more on that seat and never thought about it, no discomfort. An no memory foam either. I did have the heavy weight option, which is a mix of a steel spring and foam for support.

I contacted Moose Racing and the response is below. For the money, I think I will probably be going with something else because the shape is the same, and the description is to vague for me to confidently spend half a grand.

"The Moose seat is made by Saddleman and we use a stiffer seat foam along with a gel pad in the top of the seat for added comfort on longer rides. As far as a different shape I think will follow the OEM lines. We use a Micro-fiber suede on the top of the seat for better grip and to prevent slipping if riding in wet conditions along with a grip panel on the front sides of the seat like the MX bikes you to provide better control when riding. The rear panel is made of marine vinyl with the embossed M –logo. We also offer a D-ring tie-down attachment on the seat base in case you want to lash items down on the seat. I hope you find this information useful when selecting a replacement seat for you bike."-Moose Racing Customer Service

So has anyone tried the Moose Racing seat yet? You can find the rider only seats on closeout now for only $212 shipped. Practically the same price as a Seat Concepts cover, foam and install. Seriously considering it before I move on to a $400 Corbin or Lamm.

Bueller..Bueller?

Holy old thread revival!

FWIW, I had Russell make me a heavy weight Day Long saddle and rode the IBR on it. It now has around 50k on it and is still comfortable. My only regret is trying the Sunfast canvas cover instead of just going with vinyl like I did before, (for the FJR). I'm down to 225 after going back up to 265, so still borderline for the heavyweight option, but I'm not noticing any drawbacks.

People spend a lot of money trying to avoid a custom seat. Usually more than the cost of the custom seat. The Moose sounds like it's the same shape, so you're getting a different density of foam and a gel pad for your $200+? Not anything fit to your butt.

Yes I always search first and then will revive an old thread instead of starting a new one. Info above that would be rehashed.

I appreciate your comments and understand but what little I will gain is really my only requirement. I want a much firmer seat than stock. I ride off road so don't want a bigger seat and definitely not a touring comfy tractor bucket seat as it gets in the way. The suede like cover material of the Moose is also a plus for sitting under the sun while parked but then the gel is a negative for heat retention. My stock seat has done 44K miles in 1-1/2 years and not killing me but now looking for an incremental improvement without breaking the bank.

After posting I thought some more and figured if after 4 years there wasn't any info on this seat I probably wouldn't get any responses now. The Revzilla link in first post is the $212 shipped price and then you earn $10 off your next order so net price is only $202. So I decided to be the guinea pig and have already ordered. If I don't like it they accept returns without question and would cost me only $20 in shipping so worth a gamble. $202 versus $195 for Seat Concepts and using your stock seat. If I like the Moose I'll Ebay my stock seat and recoup some of the cost.

Please post your opinion after riding it for a while and some longer days. I'm sure others will find it useful in the future.

Hopefully the seat will be firmer, as you are looking for that. Suede cover/gel aside, I haven't been very impressed with other brands 'firmer foam'.

Yes I definitely will post my review.

One thing I should've clarified before about the stock seat. It is definitely not comfortable for me but I stand up so much (10-15%) I get the needed relief to endure it. Even riding high speed interstate I stand and do so proactively never allowing my butt to get sore.

I have done many multi-day long distance rides on the stock seat when I had to. It requires more moving around, as you indicate, and hiway pegs, standing, shaking out a leg, etc. is all part of the dance to keep blood flowing and avoid major saddle sore issues. Its just nice when you aren't thinking about your butt, but the ride instead. ::001::

You ride more off pavement than I do, but I have my days standing and using the knees more than sitting too. I haven't found the RDL to really be an issue, for me, off pavement. Technique varies in some cases due to the seat. I don't hang off on sporty rides or slide my butt around, but do use lots of body movement and weight shifting all the same.

Moose Racing seat arrived yesterday. First impression is very good. Quality construction, materials and looks very nice. Weight is 5.85 lbs versus 3.65 lbs for the stock seat. Much much firmer than stock (my 1st req't), slightly ~3/4" wider but only in rear (my 2nd req't) and a little bit taller (bonus for me!). Seat attaches firmly, better than stock as no wiggle in any direction. Only negative so far and this is a nitpick is no holder for side cover hex key. I put OEM one in underseat tray and will keep another in my jacket pocket. Can't wait for my first long ride this weekend. Will post back a comfort review afterwards but would buy again even without riding. I know from sitting on the bike it is a big improvement from stock for me. Great value at $202, I'm very happy I purchased and didn't spend double for a Corbin!

Stock seat in high position with short bumper mod.

Moose in high position. Can always cut the rear bumpers down if needed, want to ride with it as is first.

Good quality pan and latches.

Free bonus included, D-ring tie down hook/strap system for pillon seat.

I decided to do the same thing. Thought if nothing else, I could use this new seat while I send my stock one out for customizing. Can't be worse than the stock seat. Should have mine next week.
