You've inspired me! My exhaust guard is off the bike and under its first coat of Plasti-Dip. I've been meaning to do this for 11 months. Thanks!

I've been plasti dipping parts on my FZ, passenger pegs and brackets, radiator guards and am looking for what's next. I think I have plasti dip syndrome aka PDS. Now, where is that cat of mine....

Thanks guys, just be careful with the cat, they fight back!

Finished! pics...

Thoughts:
Definitely worth the trouble, I like the look, and hopefully its durable, 'cause its gonna get beat on. The texture is very much like sandpaper, very grippy. I may eventually replace the rear rack with an Altrider, and the grab handles are gone as soon as my Jesse luggage arrives, but it was a fun project nonetheless. I'll give updates with how this stuff wears.

Next up will be the Jesse Odyssey II luggage instal, along with a National Cycle Vstream Sport/Tour windscreen pictorial & review.

I really like the look of the black. How much work would it be to pull the rear frame extension and have it blacked out also?

Dont think it would be very hard, not much going on back there but a few wire harnesses & a bunch of bolts & nuts. I'd say a few hours to pull it apart completely. Main issue would just be cataloging the parts & making sure you put it back together properly.
There's another thread on this forum where a few guys are doing just that: "Black on black...on black"
I like the way mine looks with the 'Few' silver parts as highlights tho. So I think, other than a few more small bits (bash plate, header guards, etc..) im done with the blackout treatment.

Not difficult at all, I did it and I'm a basic mechanic... one or two hours maximum.

A late Christmas gift has finally arrived...Jesse Odyssey II Panniers ::012::

Very well packaged 'pop', I now have 'pop-pop' enough bubble wrap to 'pop' annoy my wife for a solid 'pop-pop-pop' month 'pop' ;D

Printed the instructions supplied with my confirmation email, got the tools together & verified all parts were present & accounted for.

While the instructions arent the greatest, they do paint a good enough picture of how goes where. Got the frames mounted, pretty straight forward but definitely a 4 hand job (Thanks Dad ::008::).

Next up is assembly of the panniers themselves.

Decided to add a little RTV where the brackets mount into the box, just in case. Again, instructions not the greatest, but was able to figure it out.

...and finally on the bike...

They measure out at 36 3/4 inches across the back (with the passenger grab handles installed) and 36 7/8 across the front). I will need to get shorter bolts if I want them tighter. I think I will eventually.

I am currently in search of cool & tasteful ways to reflective-tape tha hell outa these things. any & all ideas are appreciated.

Has anyone seen or heard of a tail kit for the XT12? I am not riding a passenger and thought the arrow LED turn signal lights might mount into the rear bolt holes of the grab bars with little mod, and then move the license plate just under the luggage rack, below the brake lights... but then I will have to cut the plastic fender off and excess for license plate and stock turn signals and hope there is no water intrusion from underneath... which, if its even a little wet out, I am sure all splashes up in that exact spot. (this would all be with the Pyramid Hugger fender installed)

ANY IDEAS? COMMENTS?

I have a shorty CalSci tinted windshield. I wasn't happy with the wind noise I was having when I used my Shoei Neotech, so I cut the shield to the height of the brackets which hold it on to the bike. What a difference it made in wind noise on my helmet. It's like riding without a shield - big improvement. My question is this. I'm thinking of plastiDipping the shield. Has anyone done this?
I'm wondering how it would hold up on the smooth plastic. Since I don't look through it, and I like the black look, I'm thinking this might be an easy mod. BUT, I don't want something I'm going to be having to redo all the time.

I don't mean to highjack the thread; I figured those who have PlastiDipped would be reading this.

Got my Jesse Panniers mounted this weekend too. Same width dimensions as you came to no washers needed (or provided). I was going to leave the grab handles off but the bracket on the exhaust side seems very close to the muffler and there are some loops in the rear rack that were very tight. I'm not sure that one could save more than a half inch on exhaust side, maybe an inch on other side. Not sure it's worth it, for me. By the way I did not RTV but thought the same thing - will go back and do that if necessary. Overall I'm happy with the look and size.

Regards, JC

Hey Crockett,
I can tell you that I plastiDipped the wind deflectors, which are the same material as the the windshield. After 300+ miles they seem to be holding up well. The few bug impacts they've taken have wiped right off. I dont think id wanna scrub them too hard, but I think it'll hold up pretty well.

Update on the footpeg guards- the plastidip was peeling so I decided to strip 'em & paint 'em.

Was bored (and sickypoo) so I drilled a few "Go-Fast" holes in the left guard.

Measure, then "dimple" with a punch.

I figure the 2 or 3 milligrams in weight I shaved oughta make the difference when I'm racing for pinks next friday night.

Rustoleum High Heat paint

Just for the halibut.
