2018 S10 with 95,000 kms on it. It's been in a closed garage all winter, on a battery tender. Tried to start it today, but no luck. The engine turns over, almost catches sometimes, but won't turn on. The battery has never been changed, and I'm thinking it's time to go for the YTZ14s battery with higher cranking capacity. Which battery are people using? The two I'm considering are Yuasa YTZ14S (1st link below) or Parts Unlimited AGM Battery YTZ14S - CTZ14S (2nd link below). What do people suggest? I'm not interested in a lithium battery. TIA.

I’ve had good luck with Shorai. I believe they offer two versions. I get the big one. My first one lasted just over 9 years.

My last two batteries have been from Super Start, a brand sold at O'Reilly Auto. The first was an XTZ14S and the second was an ETZ14S. I got four years out of the first Super Start, which was the same lifespan I got from the OEM Yuasa YTZ12S. Both the Speed Start batteries were AGM.

My 12S is over 6yrs old, I've killed it twice, and for first three years it didn't even have a 'Tender hooked to it. So, I'm going for the cheaper of the two. But, if were gonna be camping away from civilization, I'd get the higher cranking amp battery just to make sure. (or just bring a jump pack)

I changed to a Yuasa 14s in May 2021. Still starts straight off the button, in summer and winter. Never been on a battery tender. When it’s time to change, I’ll replace like for like.

In my experience, the 14s is definitely better than the 12s.

I too have had tremendous luck with Battery Stuff going back to 2010 And my Harleys. Cold cranking Amps count. The more the better. These batteries are 60 bucks and last.

Scorpion, shipping has always been free. Always get it in less than a week. And I don’t have the mess with getting another battery for five to eight years. These are cost effective I have not messed with lithium. Cost, new charger, possible fire problem. I stick with the devil I know, he is cheaper and 5 years plus is fine.

Well, it looks like a contender has entered the ring to do battle with my O'Reilly Auto Super Start when replacement time arrives.

They're both 230 cca and better than the stock 12 series so the only question is life and reliability. Yuasa is of course the gold standard but so pricey that I usually go aftermarket.

The downside to my Super Start is that even with the 14S, it still has 210 CCA and not the 230 of the Yuasa 14S or that Scorpion battery in FennellG's post. Both of my aftermarket 14S batteries have worked just fine at 210 CCA, but you can't go wrong with more with an engine like the Super Tenere has. These engines can sometimes seem like you're trying to start a Panzer IV during winter in Stalingrad.

Yeah, I've learned to just keep the starter button pressed until she starts. (within reason)
