"Greeland Gap, Mt. Storm, RT 72 " , which route were you riding?
Hi gunner,

Really glad you are coming. There is no one particular published route that covers all those roads. They are embedded in multiple routes.

I put this route together this morning. It's an all paved route, and includes what I would call the best of the best of that region. Greenland Gap, Mt Storm, Rt 72, Seneca Rock, Rt 33, Smoke Hole Road. The route does not take you all the way back to Romney, but I know you can figure out that part. There are numerous and obvious ways to cut the ride short. Depending on how your day is progressing, before starting Rt 72, B&J's Family Diner in Parsons has always been a popular spot with the riders from the event.

I did not add it as a .gdb or .gpx. I'm guessing someone with more tools than me could easily do that translation.

Route: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Romney+Cycles,+Industrial+Park+Road,+Romney,+WV/39.331894,-78.9206471/39.1577387,-79.0818371/39.1911408,-79.1613163/39.2165478,-79.2464604/39.072489,-79.619509/38.7083039,-79.4413095/38.8846374,-79.2678457/39.0368045,-79.0491491/39.0925711,-79.0647874/@39.0183222,-79.482697,10z/data=!4m17!4m16!1m5!1m1!1s0x89b57c076ebc2383:0xf1781f2cae734db1!2m2!1d-78.7571786!2d39.35489!1m0!1m0!1m0!1m0!1m0!1m0!1m0!1m0!1m0!3e0

For anyone that does not know Smoke Hole Road:

Smoke Hole is all pavement. The dirt section shown at the end is NOT part of Smoke Hole.

Thanks Jon!

I found a site that converts Google Maps routes to .gpx files:

and attached the route file here for anyone who wants it.

See you soon!

Thanks Steve, that's a capability I've wanted for a long time. I've book marked it.

I think that route will likely be a full ride day. But anyone taking it will have seen some of the best paved roads this area has to offer.

Just learned that the training class still has plenty of openings! This is a steal of a deal.

Professional Off Road Training for the first 12 to sign up

Learn to ride that big ADV bike the right way!

We are fortunate to once again have a professional riding instructor who will give one class on Saturday at the incredibly discounted rate of $150.

Alain Kaldewaaij of www.xplor-int.com is returning and we have never had students complain in previous years.

This class lasts about 4 hours starting with basics in the big grass area behind the dealership, followed by a ride off-road on gravel. This is not just follow the leader on gravel roads. Once away from the dealership (an additional 4 hours on the trail training )

Riders will be able to put their newfound skills to use on a dual / adventure sport motorcycle with instructor Alain. Riders are required to wear full protective gear including helmets, gloves, riding jacket, riding pants and boots that protect the ankles. Knobby tires are recommended. This course is intended for intermediate road riders looking for an introduction to beginner off-road riding.

To learn more about Alain and to sign up, go to his web-site for registration.

I will not be able to make it. Bike is loaded on the toy hauler 5 hours away. Toy hauler is being worked on and will not be ready in time.

Sorry Checks no pancakes this year.

**** UPDATE ***** **** UPDATE ***** **** UPDATE ***** **** UPDATE ***** **** UPDATE ***** **** UPDATE *****

I had my last pre-event chat with Kevin today. He's excited, and believes everything is ready to go. Gave him the numbers as they exist today.

Estimated Headcount: 107
Chicken Dinner chime in: 71 (we expect there are some who did not get a chance to chime in, so don't fret) Thanks for all those who gave a count.

So far weather is looking like it will give us a break this year. We deserve it.

Here's what is known.

Porta-potties are showing up on Thursday
Showers have been tested and are working. They should be setup in the loading dock area around 4pm on Friday.

Sign in table will be operational starting on Friday morning. Please come in, do the normal paperwork thing, see the door/raffle prized, get your wrist band, buy your raffle ticket, make any additional donations, say hello.

Triumph Truck
9-5 Friday
9-4 Saturday

Food on Site
Friday 11am to 2pm may go longer if people are there and food is in demand
Saturday 8am breakfast, 11am to 2pm then close and prep for 6pm chicken dinner

Saturday evening
After 6pm dinner, door prizes will be drawn

Please remember, this is a charity event for the Potomac Center (see first post). I don't know yet if the kids will be coming over. If they do, ...
If you bring a donation by check, it is tax deductible. That said, in all the years of doing this there have only been two people who donated by check. One was me, the other was an accountant by trade. Cash will be accepted. 100% of everything donated will go to The Potomac Center. We have a strong history of knocking it out of the park with donations.

I do believe the Ruritans are also using their food vending as a fund raiser. Do with that information anything you see fit.

Ride Safe
There are some long distances being covered to get to Romeny, so obviously kick stands will start going horizontal in the next day or two. On behalf of Romney Cycles, and those who help make this a successful event, we are so pleased to see so many of you coming back, and very happy to welcome new riders to the 2023 Romney Cycles Camp N Ride. Please have a fantastic and safe ride getting to the event. Thank you for joining us. See you in a few day.

Thanks Dirt_Dad for keeping the information current.
Being new to the event, I had a couple of questions.
I am assuming that we can come in and setup tents Friday?
If coming in a little later in the evening, is there a cut off time for getting in/setup on Friday?
Is there any formal registration when arriving or just get in and setup?

Thanks,
-Matt

Welcome to the event. Glad you're joining us.

People come and go at all times, no rules other that be thoughtful.

We do have a registration desk. Inside the door marked Parts. A minute or two of paper work and that's it.

There will be plenty of experienced Camp N Rider in every direction you look. Any of them able to answer questions. Checkswrecks and I are the guys in the red Camp N Ride shirts.

Weather is looking fantastic.

Just picked up the shirts and they look great. We do have some extras to sell at the registration table. If we can sell those, plus the profit from what is already sold, plus donations received so far, we already have somewhere around $700 for the kids!

Alright, I thought I was done posting videos, but just stumbled on this one tonight.

The very first Romney Camp N Ride - when all attendees could ride together on the same ride.
