This guy has made some modifications to strengthen his and make them look nicer. I really like what he is doing. I hope I am successful in getting them mounted on my '14 ES.

He recommend using the Happy Trails mounting kit: http://www.happy-trail.com/hard-parts/happy-trails-pannier-mount-kit.html if I want quick disconnect. I think I have all the information needed to make this work! ::025::
I have these and the HT Tenere frame. The mounting kit is solid the frame at least mine looks crudely put together at the welds and Powder coating. But with all that after 72k miles and laid both side bags down, the frame and mounts are holding up well.

I thought about making my own as I work in a fab shop, (I'd laser cut the sheet, much easier)
but I just hate the ugly square boxes that they are.
I made 2 sets of panniers several years ago. Instead of the 90 degree bends, I went with 2 45s at each corner, like the Givi Trekkers. The other set I formed with 1" radius bends at the corners, like the Touratech Zega panniers. It's a fun project if you have access to the right equipment. FYI, Touratech also makes a universal mounting kit for any flat sided pannier. So, the panniers being discussed here could be easily mounted on almost any rack system.
