I think that's awesome! Man, I lust for that huge bending brake and those shears! I don't even want to think about how many thousands of dollars that brake cost, but it definitely outstrips my hobby aspirations. The things I could make with those tools.....

$299 for a set of panniers sounds pretty reasonable, especially considering his material costs; I'm sure he gets a better bulk deal, but for me to buy a 4x8 sheet of 5052 aluminum in .080 (That's around 2mm, 14 gauge), it runs about $276 bucks not counting shipping.

I'm glad you posted; to me, this isn't boring at all. It's like watching "How It's Made" on the Science Channel.

Hi RC, good, it's not just me that saw the bending brake and thought, "ooh"! But, it is cheap for a set of powder coated panniers, if only he was this side of the pond.
And I agree, it's not boring, I was bored that's how I stumbled across it.

IF that's all three you bet it's a good deal, Happy Trails would be more.

Wonder if you get the side brackets as well?
I already have happy trails brackets already with the mounting knobs wonder what just the side bags would be?
He will need help down the road or he just bust out a batch at a time to save the overhead.

It looks like he makes several sets in advance; prior experience probably tells him how many he needs to make and keep on hand in order to fill orders in a timely manner.

I get the impression he either makes or sells the attachment system; I went to his Youtube channel and it shows a mounted set of his panniers on a KLR650 in his shop, so he must have some way of doing it. Unfortunately he doesn't have a website that I could find to confirm this, just a Facebook page.

Dogdaze, I freely admit to a lot of envy that you live in Switzerland, but I definitely don't envy how much it must cost you to get doo-dads for a motorcycle; that's gotta suck.

I am officially bored with winter too. So, I watched the whole video. This guy has a nice little operation going on there. The next video is where he assembles the panniers. It also shows a new price of $340 per set. I don't see anything on his facebook page about shipping costs.

I would have to use a guide to make the initial cut he did freehand...I also like the latches he uses.

I just bought some of those latches for a project of my own; they're made by Southco, and are really nice. The ones I got have a 400 lb capacity; they're going to become part of a pannier quick release system.

I wound up checking out some of his other videos, and he has changed over to the twist latches with integrated locks (like I had on my Wendell Cases). I really liked the bungee system he had as well!

This guy makes it look easy with his old school tools. I was in the HVAC business for 40 years (since high school). I was on the other end of the trade. Trouble shooting and repair. I tried layout once and it didn't work for me. He is putting in a ton of work for the few dollars he is charging. The shop that made our metal used plasma and laser cutters and machines that bend things automatically.. This guy really impresses me...

They will mount on the SWMotech removable racks. I have the welded aluminum Muffintop boxes which are similar enough to say this because I went with the SWMotechs. The boxes are bolted to the racks with fender washers on the inside of the aluminum.

I ground a rectangular piece of steel scrap to use as a screwdriver for the quarter turn fasteners, which makes removal faster and easier than a regular screwdriver.

In New Mexico we are not getting any snow at all, been riding every day. I am glad i can still ride but summer will be freaking hot and the rivers dry.
The big game population will be wreaking havoc in town, Black bears and mountain lions = garbage cans and Pet dogs in the backyard. First time in decades living in NM without snow not even a bit.. :(

I thought about making my own as I work in a fab shop, (I'd laser cut the sheet, much easier)
but I just hate the ugly square boxes that they are.
