Are these a waste, or useful? Looking at the ones from AltRider...not cheap, and I'd need 2 for the Tenere. Thoughts? Are they worth it, especially on a new bike that's still theoretically breaking in?
Those look good...the Tenere doesn't show up in their dropdown list for Yamaha models, though. Maybe I'll call them tomorrow to see if another model uses the same drain plug; thanks!
True; would probably be overkill.Just because the engine has 2 drain plugs doesn't mean you need 2 magnets.
You have to select motorcycle and ATV from the top border, then you can select Yamaha and Super Tenere from the drop down lists. Those look good...the Tenere doesn't show up in their dropdown list for Yamaha models, though. Got it! You think they're worthwhile, Eric? Worth using these for BOTH oil drain plugs? You have to select motorcycle and ATV from the top border, then you can select Yamaha and Super Tenere from the drop down lists.
Edit - Choose an older model year and it shows up. On the 2018 it did not. I looked at 2012 and 2015 and it was there on both of those.
This is what I do.I just put one of those rare earth magnets on my oil filter. Hopefully it works. If I read it on the internet it must be true.
Wow thanks a bunch for that link. That's what I use on my car. I didn't know they had low profile ones now. When I first got my Tenere I looked at everything they had and nothing would work.I would also suggest the filter magnets and also a set of low profile Fumoto (M12-1.5 BSX Series) valves. These are what I will be installing on my next oil change. They are the small/low profile ones. They can also be indexed for additional clearance.

I think one on the engine plug would be more beneficial than the one on the sump. Just thinking that the engine is stirring things up more and there is a strainer on the sump side. Still, I'm a sucker for overkill. I'd probably do both if I was going to do one. I'm not running magnets on my drain plugs, except the oem one on the final drive.Got it! I used one of those on my Big Dog. Made life a lot easier at oil change time. The S10's are easy to get to on the side with the Rumbux skid plate off, so no need for me on this bike.I would also suggest the filter magnets and also a set of low profile Fumoto (M12-1.5 BSX Series) valves. Mostly just wasted money, lots of motorcyclist get sucked into buying them. Are these a waste, or useful? Looking at the ones from AltRider...not cheap, and I'd need 2 for the Tenere. Thoughts? Are they worth it, especially on a new bike that's still theoretically breaking in?
