I was out for a long ride in traffic today and I actually thought about this thread while I was out. I'm a fan of this bike. I like nearly everything about it. I'm also a fan of Triumphs triples and I don't think this engine matches them. I don't think I'll be trading on a Triumph anytime soon, but if this engine was more like the 1050's, it wouldn't hurt my feelings any.
I love the Triumph 1050 engine but honestly think the S10 engine is just as good although different. Once you figure out how to ride a slower revving twin and use torque instead of rpms this thing will go through the twisties with any bike. S10 has so much grunt just pick a gear to match your mood and off you go quite similar to the Triumph actually. On either bike I found the fast way through the twisties is to forget shifting just get the engine in its sweet spot and go for it.

::026:: I've noticed that when transitioning through moderately sharp corners, there's not a lot of shifting needed. The bike seems to glide through corners, with the suspension set correctly, with little throttle input. While chasing my kid on his R6 through a bunch of curves, the only thing that limited the Tenere from keeping up was it's "narrow" tires. I wish that more rubber could be mounted, but there is no clearance with the caliper brace. ::001::

2 of my riding buddies do more track days in a month than I do in a year. We tend to ride at a spirited pace through the twisties. The S10 does just as good a job of hanging with them as any other bike in spite of it's skinny tires. I used to wish for fatter tires but after owning a Multistrada with 150hp and fatter 17" tires I realized the S10 or it's skinny tires are not a limiting factor. The bike will go as hard as I push it and has never caused any pucker factor. In fact it surprised me to find out how hard I could ride the S10 and the bike does fine. If I think about it some of the fastest riders I've come across were riding things like KTM 990s with skinny dual purpose tires and they were quick!

I really don't know why they seem so "skinny", they're 150s. My FJ runs 150s, and it doesn't look narrow. I realize the sidewalls are different, but 150 is 150 regardless of sidewall ratio.

Bet they got better adventure up-there, though.
Suspect reliability will be legendary too.

Just saying. (might be worth the effort. Lol )

Ran over to Cortez and picked up "a second bike" today.

Returned to the top of the mountain in Mancos, geared up, and took it for its maiden run.

1. Horribly small gas tank. Runs out of gas every 5 or so minutes. Takes about twice that long to refuel it
2. Horribly underpowered. Although it FLIES downhill.
3. Handles great!
4. Has better brakes than my KLR

Wasn't conscious of the matching of colors.
But it might possibly reveal something about me?

I've bought many outdoor chairs. Those, by far, have been my favorite. I've tried to find more of them.
And yesterday, that color choice kind of surprised the bike salesman. He thought I'd take the black one.

I might be getting in touch with my feminine side as I creep towards senility.

Your subconscious is letting the real you come through.....

Before desert Shield & Desert Storm, I didn't like colors. After seeing tan tents, tan vehicles, tan ground, tan people and tan clothes for months on end, I got to where I was a little less ambivalent about color. In fact I like a little color in my life now. I like green grass even if it means I have to mow it.

Enjoy the bike. hope to start riding my road bike again soon, if it doesn't fail under the new me. /thread hijack

The OP should buy a Tenere' so he can start enjoying it too. When he finds a good deal of course.

If hijacking was strictly enforced around here, I'd be banned!!
(and I'd actually be banned BY a fella (moderator) that's been banned before! How hypocritical that would be)

You know who you are. LOL

We're pretty friendly here! We know thread drift is inevitable, we just try to keep it to a minimum in the tech threads...
