mine turned up today and I must say wow very high quality and finish well pleased with them but got stiffed £21 import duty on top of the $40 postage from Singapore but they do look very nice ::015::

Nice!! Yeah, import duty sucks!! Some countries have huge personal allowance figures (Australia), yet the UK used to allow only £30 , now it's zero and they add a 'handling fee' on top, the Swiss gives a 90 CHF personal allowance if shipped, but they sometimes include the postage fee as part of that allowance, still, only 8% compared to the 20% VAT and 10% import duty in the UK... ::009::

The UK allowance before paying VAT (20%) is £15. This includes the postage cost.
The UK allowance before paying Import Duty (4-9% depending on item) is £135. This also includes the postage cost.

If you are liable for both taxes, duty is added first, with VAT payable on the total amount after duty has been added. Therefore you pay tax on the previously added tax.
