2006 KLR - my old trusty mule. No good reason to sell it for now.



2004 FJR - Cool bike but was no use keeping it when the XT came in our life.

Sold my '09 KLR farkled to the nuts after I broke up with my g/f...no other reason than to use the money to fix up the house. I would sometimes lose the excitement factor of riding with the KLR, I dunno...even after trying to make it the "right" bike for me. Only thing I didn't do was the 685 or 705 kit... Spent more money with Eagle Mike and talking with Wyman Winn than most, but I can't thank them enough for the great introduction to dual sport riding they gave me...really wish I could have gotten to know KLRCary.

Now I'm married and we bought the S10 in March. Went on the Ozark Fall Colors trip this fall and was introduced to another great dual sport community... ::022::

So how do you vote if you have a 96 KLR, 2004 + 2006 Wee and an 07 FJR?
Perhaps allow for multiple selections.

I rode a '10 KLR for a while and it's a great bike for what you pay for them. However... in my humble opinion their "true" capabilities have been extremely exaggerated. Sure, you can virtually take them anywhere, and yes... you can tour with them for thousands of miles from Florida to Alaska and back. But you can also do the same on foot, on a bicycle, or cross the Atlantic in a row boat... Just because you CAN do something doesn't necessarily mean you SHOULD. KLRs are what they are, and I would never go back now when I have my ST. I have seen the light :)

Stumbling around this site with a cup of coffee in hand found me at this thread. I about laughed the coffee right out my nose when I saw Joe-Joe's post -

That oil blow by is prolly saving the motor, lol

I can't blow the thing up. I rev it to redline through every gear for years. I run 90mph indicated for years.
Just add some oil next time I flog it. Not bad like some make it out to be.

I did the doo long ago & adjusted the valves loose side once. It's had 4 batteries in ten years, a speedo cable, clutch cable, wheel bearings, fork seals, One broke rear brake bracket, & broken stock shifter. Bike don't owe me a dime. Bought it for 3 grand back in 05' & it was like new. I can still prolly get 2 grand for it after 8 years of beating the chit out of it."



I wholeheartedly agree!!! I have an '05 KLR that I bought for $3k in 2007 and have farkled her mercilessly over the last 15k miles. For almost 6 years she was my only bike and I made her do everything from the 45 mile roundtrip commute to the hospital on the slab to being thrashed about in the Appalachian backcountry in a manner only befitting a 200lb 2-stroker woods bike. Even before I got my S10, I looked at my KLR as a nearly disposable toy and was more than willing to huck her into situations that might mean some repair time. But those repairs were few and far between and were typically easy to do myself and parts were cheap and easily found. Now that I have the S10 around for more of the street oriented applications, the trusty old KLR is gonna get stripped of the HappyTrail boxes and everything else that smacks of riding hardpack and I am gonna fully dirt her out (she just got D606 rear!) to make her into the truly indestructible (and maybe even disposable) off road dualsport bike for my exploration of the WV backcountry. Doubtful that I'll ever get rid of her as she is a sentimental and favorite, a dependable workhorse, and now can be available as my guest bike.

I am excited about getting confident on the bigger and heavier S10 so that I can take it offroad but I will always have the KLR ready to really go get after it! Here she is!

I have an '07 WeeStrom 24k miles and an '08 FJR, 23k miles. Both owned since new. Have 11+k miles on the Super Ten and it is just less than one year old now. I have not ridden the Wee much since buying the Super Ten, and have thought about selling it, but still love the feel of the thing.

Frankly, having some discontent with surging on the Tenere, and overall agricultural nature of the motor. Trying to decide if I should put an aftermarket exhaust and fueling on the bike to improve things, live with it or move on. I love the weather protection, transmission, brakes, quality of the bike, but the motor is pretty uninspiring in many ways. Wish I could put the Triumph Explorer motor in this chasis...

I'm an FJR lover and just bought a new model 2013 to replace my 08 two weeks ago. After doing that I was mad at myself because I've been Jonesing for a Tenere or a Triumph Tiger Explorer for nearly two years.

Last week I brought my old 08 FJR in for its 16,000 mile service to get it ready to sell. While I'm at the service counter the owner of my local dealership jokingly asks if I'm in for the break in service on the new FJR. I told him I was just "preparing the old one to sell" and playfully said "unless you want to trade me for one of the 2012 Teneres you have in the box out back." He quickly says he would take $4000.00 to trade. I'm sure my jaw dropped cause I was expecting a $5500 to $6000 number but attempted to haggle anyway. Told him if he would take the FJR as is, needing service, plugs, and replacing all fluids, and greasing pivot points, I'd take him up on it. He said that was doable. :)

That was the easy part. I figured I better make a quick call to the wife and run it by her. Told her I though it was too good to pass up and the next thing you know I have two new Yamahas in the garage.

If that isn't bad enough I bought a 06 Ducati 999 with 416 miles on it in November that I found on Craig's list to replace a crashed FZ1. I haven't even had a chance to put 10 miles on that yet. Come on spring, I feel like the luckiest guy in the world!

What did I just buy? Agricultural Nature of the motor? I drove the Explorer last fall and it had good power but I just couldn't get connected to it, and hated the odd exhaust note of that three cylinder engine. I drove the Tenere about a mile and a half to fill it with gas and try it out but was pretty pleased with it. The roads were wet and icy at 34 degrees so I took it easy.
