It seems a lot of us Super Tenere owners are former or current KLR riders, V-Strom or FJR riders.

Vote which bike your related to before the Super Tenere came out.
Don't matter if you had or still own one of the three bikes.
Let's see the polls!

The 4th option is open to whatever other bike you had or have.
Feel free to comment. I'm thinking most of us came from dual sport bikes, ADV machines, & sport-touring.
I'm sure there's a few that have come from race replica sportbike or Harley's!
Maybe you've had all three bikes in the polls? Speak your heart which bike you bonded to stronger. ::020::

I'm guessing there's more KLR guys around here then the other two. ::001::

I have an S-10 and an '09 KLR. KLR is up for sale, although I have to say when I rode the S-10 on the Lolo trail this summer, I would've been a lot more comfortable on the KLR, mostly because I wouldn't have cared as much if I had dumped it, and the damage probably would've been less expensive. I didn't dump the S-10, but came close a few times. A little nerve-wracking for a somewhat neophyte in the dirt.

No FJR - I have a Honda ST1300

No KLR - I have a Honda XR650R

The Wee is still in my shop, although it is now owned by the girlfriend.

I purchased the Tenere to fulfill the duties of the Wee for off road exploration while providing nearly the punch of the ST1300. Still nothing else as smooth as the ST1300. The Wee is just a plain, fun bike to ride. The Tenere gets most all of the miles these days. If I could only own one bike, it is the Tenere and if I was on a tight budget, it would be the Wee.

Every bike excels at something, but the Tenere does almost everything thing in a compromise situation better than anything else that I've ever ridden. I just can't seem to get enough of this bike. 2 iron butt rides on the Tenere so far and maybe as much gravel as the XR has done to date. I guess the only thing it does not do well is ride like my old Gasgas trials bike did.

I just sold my 2010 KLR because I simply don't ride it anymore.

I use the Super Ten for everything. Granted I'm not a hardcore off road rider, but I've scraped the bashplate a couple of times on gravel/dirt. Put twice as many kilometers on it this year than I did on my KLR the year before and it's a hundred times more fun to be able to bomb down the long straightaways at 150 kph and have more throttle just waiting to be opened up.

I loved my KLR but just didn't see the need for keeping it. I do everything I like to do on my Tenere and will have 30,000 miles on it in a few weeks. 8)

In 2004 I discovered adventure bikes and started down this road with a KLR. In 2007 I stepped up adding a V-Strom 650. I managed to kill the KLR with a little over 30k miles on it. I still have the Wee but I'm looking to sell it and get D/S bike. Perhaps another KLR or a DR.

I selected KLR but I have also owned a DL1000. I still have the KLR but have not ridden it for 16 months.

I had to thin the herd...so I sold my '07 V-Strom 1000 and '05 KLR and replaced them with the S-10 ::008::

Sold an 05 Suzuki DL1000 before the Tenere. Kind of think of the S10 as the bike Suzuki could have, should have built. Vee was a very good, reliable bike. Tenere betters it in all areas mind you. ( especially the brakes :D)
I still have a tin of chain lube on the shelf that serves as a reminder as to why I really like the Yamaha though. C:)

Had a XT660R which was so good it prompted me to get the SuperTen. Have an FJR for two-up touring, kept my old GS1100 BM as it is too good to let go, although I very rarley ride it now that I have the S10. have a low mileage, rarely ridden 2000 Harley. The FJR and S10 are just excellent machines and do most of what I want, but I do have a Honda crf450x at a friend's house in the USA.

I did not have any of those machines prior to the S10, but did clear a Versys out of the garage to make room. As a direct competitor of the WeeStrom, guess I could have checked that box.

A little bit of my history.

Always liked being in the woods riding trails since I was say 12 years old with dirtbikes, trikes, ATV's.
Fell in love with riding the street too at 15 with a honda elite scooter, then at 17yrs old, I had a 86 GS 550.
Few sportbikes then few Harley's in my 20's.

Love for the Vmax motorcycle late 20's to the present but sold my Gen 2 last year. Had 3 Gen 1's. Love going fast off the line drag racing.
My gen 2, I could not throw around like the gen 1 in the hills, out running sportbikes. I move to Florida last year & thought the gen 2 would shine, but the riding sucks no matter what you have.
Traffic, cops, cameras, no mountains, etc... Harlley land, pups on uncomfortable sportbikes getting splatted, or motorscooters work well round here truthfully.

Passion, cheapest, most fun bike to date for me is my old KLR 650!!!
I leant a friend some money to buy a KLR from his brother, so my friend could ride both street & dirt with me.
I always had a Quad for dirt & street bike for street. My buddy actually never really rode the KLR but I kinda knew one day I'd buy a KLR for myself because of the concept.
I found a mint 02' in 05' & still have it but it's trashed nowadays past few years. It looks older then it is. Rat bike army green. People think it's an antique. Frame welded, dirt stained molecularly bonded, it can't be washed just touched up with spray paint if anything. I always lived near the mountains. Cali, NY, Ga.
MY KLR & Tenere in Florida are really just used for commuters. Inland is some riding but nothing epic.

The only thing I don't like about my Tenere is that it can not go anywhere like the KLR did.
I use to ride black diamond trails with my KLR. The Tenere is a huge streetbike with FS road & medium duty trail in my mind
I like the Tenere cause it does long distance street better but feel limited off road.

Never had a V-strom & not much desire for one but I'm sure it's a functional steed be a wee or 1K.
Came so close to pulling the trigger on a Gen 1 FJR when it hit the states but bought a Gen 1 FZ1 instead, which was a great sport-tour, more sport.
As mentioned above, I see the can of chain lube on the shelf for the KLR & remind myself that the s-10 is ready to go without fear of adjustment, or replacement of sprocket & chain.
Just find a rear tire along the travel if need be.

I'm gonna keep the Ten for a few years. Might buy a new KLR eventually as I really enjoy it's size & capability.
At 38, I've been also thinking about adding a cruiser to the stable like a Valquero but truthfully I really don't ride much anymore in Florida.
I do spend time on the water with jet ski & boat. Too many toys, no time to use them all.
Sold my ATV & need a muscle car in the garage that I'll never use too.
I like jeeps as well.

Blab over.
Conclusion....I'm a KLR guy
Cheers!

Had the KLR in both 2005 and 2009 trim.

the 2009 version drank oil if you pushed 5000 rpm's ... it's a known problem - Kawa refuses to fix it.

I traded it in on the new Supa10

Will never get another one, even if they fix the problem as they knew about it and didn't do a thing.

Sickens me because I am fond of Kawa products...prolly won't buy another anything from them again.

MY 02 KLR has always burned the same amount of oil.
I got it at 3000 miles & now it has hard 32,000+ street & trail.

Basicly highway speeds after 75 MPH it would consume oil. Deserves it IMO.
Tuck down from wind noise at interstate speeds & listen to that one piston screaming.
That oil blow by is prolly saving the motor, lol

I can't blow the thing up. I rev it to redline through every gear for years. I run 90mph indicated for years.
Just add some oil next time I flog it. Not bad like some make it out to be.

I did the doo long ago & adjusted the valves loose side once. It's had 4 batteries in ten years, a speedo cable, clutch cable, wheel bearings, fork seals, One broke rear brake bracket, & broken stock shifter. Bike don't owe me a dime. Bought it for 3 grand back in 05' & it was like new. I can still prolly get 2 grand for it after 8 years of beating the chit out of it.

I have an 09 Road King I've put about 40,000 miles on in the last three years . I bought a '10 KLR to have a crack at some dirt, which was a new thing for me, loved it. So a bit later I also got a TTR-250 to take places near my home I couldn't get to on the KLR , loved it too. I bought the S10 to rack up miles on and to take me places a long way from home that might not suit the Harley and to do IBA runs on (although I have done an SS1600k, 1000 mile day on the TTR 250 just for fun that's awaiting certification). The S10 fills the gap between the KLR and the Harley perfectly. I ride them all, love them all, not selling any of them. If it came to pass that I had to get I'd of three I'd keep ..... the Harley, but that isn't going to happen!

I put 77000 on my '04 ST1300 and 26000 on my '07 Wee before I bought Crusher. I think I'll be happy for a long time.

Growing up on the east coast my dad was a harley mechanic and custom car & bike builder. I rode & raced harley's all my life. When I moved to AZ in 04 I found a lot of great dirt roads that did not get along well with my 03 ultra classic. :'( A friend told me if I wanted a cheap bike that could go anywhere to get a KLR. I bought a used 08 and fell in love with dual sport riding. Sold the KLR shortly after getting the S10.
Now looking for a DRZ 400 or WR 250 For tighter trails. Open to opinions on that subject. ::008::

Ex FJR guy here. ::008:: I kinda miss the zip and I think the FJR is more comfortble on long rides, but I like being able to go off-road on the ST.
