Well I finally got to bring it home yesterday :) Had a few extras fitted but it needs to go back due to a couple of marks on some panels, the dealer took pics and will have to see what Yamaha do. Only a quick 6 mile ride home, left it there so I could coat it in ACF50 today. I test rode a 2011 model and even though I'm keeping the revs down my 2016 feels very nice :)

The question is, what's the best way to clean/polish this matte grey paintwork? I've only ever had bikes with a gloss finish, this is a new one on me! The dealer wasn't much use!

LOL! What??? That's the advantage of the matte finish you DON'T polish it... Ever!!! that is exactly why I love it!

Lol maybe polish was the wrong word! Maybe clean might be a better word! I'm guessing regular car/bike soap and a sponge will do the job?

Yup. Once the bugs/mud get a quarter inch think on the windshield soap and water are in order

Yo, yoyo ....... Yamaha makes a "Yamashine" or "Yamaclean" product that they use on new surfaces. They shine up the bikes on the showroom floor with it. Should work well on an already clean surface. R

I use Motul "Show & Shine." It's mainly a silicon based cleaner......spray on and wipe off. The only disadvantage is that it attracts dust and fine dirt but it also stops crud from sticking to the paintwork so easier to wash stuff off. Your S10 looks great!

Pro Honda polish cleaner works great. My bike has the flat paint on the side farings and front fender.

I asked this question myself when I first got my matte gray 2014 model.

The best bet is to wash it and dry it the usual way; with a bucket, hose and car wash. Dry everything thoroughly, take it for a ride on the highway to make sure the bike is totally dry. Then go all over everything with original lemon pledge furniture polish and a soft, cotton cloth. It will clean and protect everything well enough.

I think I am going to try some protectall and see how that works also.

have fun and enjoy the bike!!!

The only bit of mine I've ever washed of my gray 2013 is the windshield to remove bugs, and the light covers. Otherwise, the bike gets clean in the winter riding in the rain, and dusty in the summer. I've not washed any of our vehicles due to the drought here in CA.

Thanks all, I'm not fanatical about cleaning but it's the first brand new big bike I've owned so it might get cleaned for a month or two!

Just leave it out in the rain now and then. ;D
Leaving in the rain is not enough pressure. Medium rain and interstate speed is a better cleaner.

Flitz makes a matte paint cleaning spray. I've used this on my mattle black Tuono with great results.
Another question...what is your opinion of the side tank protectors? I'm torn between then and the Techspec ones.

+1 on the techspec. I have put them on all my bikes over the years. Works great, looks great. Easy to put on.
