Flitz makes a matte paint cleaning spray. I've used this on my mattle black Tuono with great results.
Another question...what is your opinion of the side tank protectors? I'm torn between then and the Techspec ones.
+1 on the TechSpec snake skins. I had them on my FJR and loved them. I just got my new 2015 S10 and my new Tech Spec snake skins are supposed to be here tomorrow!

I keep my matte grey S10 spotlessly clean - ouch: no head-banging please.
I use only water (not even soap). Spraying water on the dirt and leaving it to soak a little before washing it down with chamois leather (or sponge). Never use a powerwash.

I was under the impression that regular car wash solutions had micro abrasives in them that will eventually polish a matte finish. I remember when BMW introduced the matte finishes they had a special soap or it was recommended to use a dish soap. Regular car was soap is designed to keep gloss paint jobs looking good.

Juan and Oilfield-

I use car wash every time I wash my S-10. I keep my S-10 fairly clean also. Regular car wash does not contain any abrasives, some of them do have a small amount of wax added to the formula but that isn't going to hurt anything. I have used several types of car wash all over the bike and the matte paint still looks good.

I have been using a pressure washer on my cars and motorcycles for years with no issues. The trick is to not use a powerful, commercial grade pressure washer and do not use a narrow stream nozzle. I use a 40 degree fan nozzle that is specially designed for washing vehicles. It is not concentrated enough to push water into places it isn't supposed to be. Even with that, do not hold the nozzle too close to the surface you are washing, 2-5 feet away works great and you wont have any problems.

For drying, I use a cotton towel or microfiber to wipe down all of the flat surfaces and then I use a leaf blower to blow the water out of all the crevasses and tight spots. Again, I have been using this method for years and no problems. Wax as you dry type products work great also if you want a little extra shine on glossy surfaces.

Yes, that is the object of the matt finish. I was happy when I got my FJ-09 in matt because I had had a lifetime of pretty shiny bikes. Didn't have to worry about that or shine crap. When bugs, etc build up or mud, road grime, etc, just wash with soap and water once in a while.
