Is the GS1250 the reason?

More seriously, I tested in 2018 a GS and a GSA 2018, the GS was so so, the GSA was wonderful (no the GS and GSA don't have exactly the same engine, nop), but the arrogance of the dealer and the price finished convincing me this bike wasn't for me, and believe me or not I could buy that without any problem.

I bought the 2021 T1200 after I've read this forum, I don't understand why this bike has failed, why I don't see more T1200 in Switzerland ?
It is not the most fun bike, nor the prettiest we all agree I think, but damn this bike is good, in the turns, at the gasoline station, it is reliable ! ( and I had APRILIA, DUCATI, TRIUMPH , believe me you WANT a reliable bike unless you jump from café terraces to café terraces.

Really, it is a good bike. BUT if you LOVE the GS and have the cash, sure, get it.

I took a test ride on the GS 1250 after riding the GS 850. Hated the 850, but when I got back on the 1250 I told the sales guy, "okay, I get it now." What a fantastic feeling bike. Highly impressed.

I was somewhat reluctant getting my KTM because I really liked that 1250. The $8k price difference is what swayed me to the orange side. The rest, as they say, is history.

I don't think anybody is saying that every Beemer is junk. And I'll even concede that there's more "good" Beemers than "bad". But the problem is . . . . you can't tell the good from bad . . . . until it's too late. And I'm a once bitten, twice shy kinda guy. Yamaha has never bitten me.
In my neck of the wood, the beemer is a social $tatu$....and when it bites it is an occasion to show the cash power...

Beside the history, if the 8k was available, you would have been with the GS instead of KTM...so in your case it was a money decision.

I believe you, money is not an issue for me neither....here the dealer does treat you well (excluding the total amount in the invoice at purchase time, scheduled maintenance and repairs)...they offer 5 years of warranty or 100.000km...they never push you to upgrade...so attitude wise they are okey...
Yes you are right, reliability and predictability are an absolute must for me hence I am still reluctant to move...I am thinking about adding the T700 world raid once available...I can have much more fun with it and yet feel the same kind of trust it is reliability...

I had serious fun with the GSA, you should test (retest ?) one, they have an heavier flywheel that makes (for me) the ride much more smooth.
I was not aware about the 100 000km or 5 years, its very impressive.

As you said above, if you can live with the "the beemer is a social $tatu$ " thing, I think it is ok.
I dont know if a 1250 GS/GSA is reliable now, but in our French /Swiss youtube channels, apparently a 1300GS/GSA is coming and even a 1400 one, probably hybrid (!?!)

Yes the warranty is impressive but it keeps you on the hook for their maintenance: 120 euro for oil change + filter. 400 euro for their 30k km maintenance which include air filter and other stuff...
Yes I called the dealer for a test drive and I am to receive an appointment soon

No doubt. I had such a good deal on the KTM I thought if it doesn't work out I'll just sell it and bite the bullet and the the 1250. it's worked out far better than I could have ever hoped. The interest in the big BMW is a faded memory. Impressive bike, but for now I'm extremely content.

That is a lot of money for such maintenance.
Indeed. Compared to my S10: oil change + filter: 38 euro. I had no other maintenance bigger than this one :))
Oh wait, changed my fork oil seal and dust seal after 8 years : total oem parts: 70 euro. Labor with my trusted mechanic: 40 euro.

woa, this is almost laughable ... (I'm not sure if this is perfect English, but you get the point I guess) 38€ vs 120€ ..
For someone that make 2000 miles per year it's ok, but for someone that put 20 000 miles every year , that is a huge difference.

One thing a new BMW gives you is much much more to talk about. Mostly the faults!!! I’ve actually realised that by buying the S10 when most of my mates have gone for GS’s and RT’s is I’m not included in as many discussions as I have nothing to input other than taking the P.
Although I do know a couple of owners that just won’t admit to faults, trying to say there’s are perfect. Don’t believe them. One guy that’s had various models over the years eventually admitted to just about all the known faults‍. I’ll be sticking with my S10, I’ve no desire to waste so much time at the dealers.

I just don’t like the look of them. And putting the cylinders sideways is just wrong

I agree with the first statement, for the newer models. The current GSs look like tarts handbags pumped up on steroids. They’ve totally lost the simple utility look of the original GSs like my old 850. And the current RTs look like oversized Bison. Just aweful.
But the engine design is fine in basic form. Strangley I’ve got more use to the engine over the years. My first R11RS created my title name. I once commented that I’d driven better two cylinder engines in dumptrucks on building sites, and the name stuck….
But I‘m so use to the roughness now that that’s whats missing from the latest overpowered overtechy versions. My first ride on a 1200 was shocking with how easy they were to ride and how smooth everything was. I can only guess that the latest 1250’s are even more effortless. Not for me, I want to feel like I’m riding the bike, not being taken for a ride by the bike. Hence I’m loving the S10.

Absolutely correct :) I always sound boring when it comes to topics about maintenance et stuff....my response is usually "no I just put gas..sorry!"
By the way, one colleague freaked out when he lost one of his GS keyless and checked the price for its replacement (I think it was about 700 euro key & programming at the dealer)....he asked me what does it cost me to replace mine I told hom about 10 euro at the locksmith...
