DO YOU disconnect these connectors (open them) to put this fuse IN? To me it didn't look like there is a way to just slip a fuse IN while the connectors are still plugged in???

Has anyone take a picture with a fuse plugged in?
No disconnection necessary, the mini-fuse slips in.

Thanks for the replies... And thanks to Fred I don't need to try the fuse. I'll have Fred's cheater switch.
Hmmm... Now to find the thread on the re-flash to figure out what that's all about and what it costs.

Hey Brick,

Wait until STAR and you can ride my bike and I'll tell you all I know about it and you can decide for yourself if it is something that you are interested in. Cost is $450.

FYI for those of us with electronic cruise control, the clutch mod will disable the cruise. Well Duh.... The cruise thinks the clutch has been pulled in and will not engage. It took me several hours to figure this out.......not one of my finer moments...

Good to know, and added incentive for a reflash.

True but not a big problem if you install with a switch. I do have to confess that I have had a few "why won't the cruise control engage" moments before I remembered the Super Sport switch. Duh...... ::26::

Definitely worthwhile installing a switch. I was riding on some cold, slippery mountain roads yesterday and it was nice to being able to switch from Super sport mode to the less abrupt throttle response of sport mode.

Would have been nice if Yamaha had made touring mode like sport mode and sport mode like the CJM's super sport mode... Then no need for a reflash or the CJM.

Tried the clutch mod with a mini-fuse with the stock exhaust and really didn't notice a difference (except an egg smell). Decided to try it again after installing the Leo Vince SBK carbon fiber exhaust. WHOA! What a difference. Pulls really strong in the first three gears with no stumble or hesitation. I'll be rigging up the switch soon, so I can switch between modes.

Your probably not "testing" properly, the gains are only in 1st - 3rd, between about 2k and 4k, and only if using large throttle openings, so if you ride about 4k you win't notice it, if your in a gear higher than thrid you won't notice it, and if your gentle with the throttle at low revs in lower gears you won't notice it.

I really notice mine as it most UK roundabouts have me dropping into third and exiting at about 30-40mph, where the clutch mod is giving about 25% more power, but on open roads it makes little odds.

Where it will be most obvious is mountain style switchbacks like in my Avatar, many Alpine passes have endless hairpins where your lugging out of them from just off idle in second, the restrictions will be both obvious and annoying on these roads.

I definitely noticed a difference after doing this mod..... for a free remap to remove these restrictions its a no brainer.

Known about this thread since its origin but never did get to trying the mod.... till today that is! All I have to say is WOW, what an impressive improvement. Folks, just do it. The bike is way more responsive and runs much smoother. Went from appreciating what the bike can do to loving what the bike can do. Yes the difference is that big.

For some, you are just imagining it. Power of suggestion, I guess.
But since perception is reality, does it really matter??

Anyways, what took you so long? :)

Did the mod a few weeks ago and there is quite a difference. I thought I liked it till I finally got on some dirt yesterday.
For me it was no fun. Way to jerky. I left the fuse out when I got back on the slab and now realize I like the bike better without the mod.
It had not dawn on me that all you need to do to get that snap is ride the bike above 4000. Yeah I guess I might lose some drag races but,
I am ok with that.

Don't waste your time with a mini fuse. Instal a proper switch. Then you can use all 3 Modes. Touring, Sport and Super Sport. ::26::

With 31 years of off-road experience, I am not worried.

has anyone done AFR's with the switch mod dyno maps? I can't remember and there are 39 pages...too many to read. The reason I ask is that I had an epiphany and thought I might share. If the bike runs open loop, with a rich mixture and a retarded ignition, the catalyst may suffer an increased load... which could lead to a failure (plugged cat?) anywho, not to be an alarmist when it comes to making an unregulated modification to a motor vehicle, but I was considering the modification up until I thought of this, after which I became quite happy with the stock tuning.

Yes, not every gear and every throttle opening, but 2nd and 5th WOT runs revealed stock the bike runs slightly weak at the bottom end and slightly rich at the top end, with the CJM it runs equally rich all the way.

As to cat harm this is very inconclusive as you really would need to compare many throttle openings, but on my runs you could see the bike was running weak until around 4.5k in stock trim, and then started getting richer up towards the redline (13:1 is about spot-on) With the CJM it runs the same up top (slightly rich) but also runs richer at lower revs.

Here is a graph of 3rd gear and 5th gear with the arrows (plus 3rd gear without CJM) the longer graph line is in 5th gear (plotted against road speed) and you can see the fuelling is quite good with the arrow headers nicely compensating for the richer running of the bike with the CJM - I suspect it would be very lean down low without the jumper.

Again this is only a WOT run and tells little about fuelling at other throttel settings, but what it does do is surge at low throttle openings which is a sign of running weak, this suggests it is still using the closed loop area as opposed to running richer with the CJM at low throttle openings.
