How awesome are the traction control and abs off road?

Got to ride my bike for the first time on gravel yesterday with the K60s.

With TCS1 the bike surges forward like a freight train. No drama no fish tailing. Stand on the rear brake and grab a handful of front and it stops in a hurry.

This is my first bike with FI and ABS/TCS and I am very impressed!

Careful in TCS1 on the gravel. I found out that if you find washboards going uphill, the TCS1 will bring the bike to a hault pretty quickly trying to "find" traction. I much prefer TCS2 for gravel.

Almost lost it when the front tire sunk into some mud and started sliding sideways.
Don't rely on the electronics to make up for common sense.

I hear you. I agree the electronics do not suspend the laws of physics....

I took my St to wharton state forest in jersey 2 weeks ago. Did deep sand, gravel, dirt and swampy trails. This was my first off-road trip ever on a mc. So I don't know what it would feel like on a different or lighter bike, but overall I was pleased with the performance of ST in all categories. I felt comfortable and stable.

I ran Heidenaus at 31 psi with about 300 miles on them at the time. I weigh at about 250 + 2L gas on the tail end + 1 gal of water on the tail end. Basically started off in the meat grinder, very deep sand with suv, atv, bicycle, other mc tracks criss-crossing each other, so it was no beach sand. Dropped it a few times and finally crashed into a tree once at about 12-15 mph. That's when I stopped wondering why the bike slows down and rides like crap in a sand when I roll on a throttle and remembered to turn off TC. ::001:: ::012:: After disabling TC the bike ran smooth over the sand with occasional moments here and there that make you skip a heart beat so to speak. I just had to remember is to stand up, ass a bit towards the rear and roll on that baby and ease up on the grip. That sand was scary at least until I turned TC off. It was still a bit nerve wrecking.

Then we did I guess an ATV trail, deeper into the forest, constant up and down into these I guess ditch things with wet dirt at the bottom. And the last and my favorite I believe we ended up on a hiking trail by mistake, it was very narrow with tree branches pretty low, so we had to duck constantly and it was swampy and muddy, also very ditchy, big tree roots sticking out from under the ground, did hit a skid a few times. This was my favourite action for the day.

Last thing we did was a straight path of sand and gravel. We did between 40-50 mph on it conditions permitting, bike felt great. So I pretty much ran with TC off after ST got acquainted with that tree. Again overall I am pleased with ST performance, seems like a lot depends on the rider first and remembering to to things.
Abs was not an issue since I wasn't planning on doing any drifting. I suppose if one is looking to drift in a dirt/gravel road you should turn it off.

I love riding in the pine barrens!

You should make a camping trip out of it.

Mostly leave the ABS switched on but always ride off road with the TCS off ::019:: gives a bigger fun factor and keeps me awake. ::021::

Let me give you a "newbie to off-road" perspective. I am a motor officer and very acquainted with very tight turns in small space. I can easily lock my bars to do 180's or 360's on asphalt or concrete. The trick is to keep constant power to the back wheel while finessing the clutch, throttle and break while keeping my head up. HOWEVER, I am a newbie to the dirt stuff and tried a tight 180 on sand in TC1 and damn near dumped the bike. I wasn't thinking when I did it, but the TC1 cut the power to my back wheel for just enough time to almost put me down. Had I done the turn with the TC off I would have been fine. Lesson learned, when I leave the asphalt, TC off.

Yeah, the UBS/ABS/TC is super on this bike. Wasp has 18" rear 21" front and the system handles it just fine.

I usually stay in TC1 and keep my speed up, if not able then TC2. Mostly use just the front brake and let UBS do its work. Pretty cool.

I see several have gone the all or nothing route on the TCS. I, like Tiger, have found TCS2 to be pretty awesome. Rocky, rutted, jeep trail hill climb, she stayed hooked up and accelerated even. LOL, that was after trying out TCS1 of course, scary.

I was against electronic help in the bikes before I bought this bike. Now I love it.
In dirt you have several possibilities:
TC2 + T mode = prudent riding, also helps in very slippery tracks.
TC2 + S mode = fun, the TC2 let you spin the wheel but acts when you trespass the limit.
TC off + T mode = classic ride, no electronic help but progressive power
TC off + S mode = BIG FUN!! >:D

I never use the ABS in dirt

This bike is AMAZING!! ::012::

Yesterday I used TCS2 , T mode, and clutch lever mod... while crossing Carizzo Plains National Monument. The hardpack and gravel was fun as long as I did not get to happy with the right grip. Had the rear step out a couple times but the TCS and stable frontend straightened it up quickly. The S10 is surprisingly stable. Wish I was a better rider.

Hi Jamie.
What are you using to shut off the ABS? Did you wire somthing yourself, or buy an aftermarket switch? Thanks.
