I believe when they updated the engine there is now a casting lug on the lower case that sticks out down low. There was never an issue with the pre '18 Wings.

Every time I go on a multi hour ride I get this urge to Wing it... Anybody think there would be a benefit to the Wing over the Tenere on multi hour rides?

Cycledude invited me to lunch yesterday at a gathering of the WI GoldWing Club. Big turnout 43 people and all of them friendly, welcoming and nice. Well 42 of them were I guess I was 1 of the 43 and none of those words have ever been used to describe me! All joking aside really a great bunch of people and a nice time. I think certain bikes attract a certain personality and that scores points for the Wing.

Was there a majority agreement in the use of communications device between them while riding? I’ve seen the wing have an option for a CB, curious if that was in use.

The older Goldwings had excellent CB radios but the 2018+ model CB costs a fortune and most folks that actually bought one say it ain’t worth crap because they can barely hear them

I'm currently on my first multi-day GW ride. The weather has ranged from gorgeous, perfect fall spectacular, to all day miserable, low 40s, rain, fog, low visibility crap. Roads have ranged from highway, to unpaved, water filled pot holed rough.

The GW has been both phenomenal, and a source of great annoyance. There are times I'm really glad I took the SAS back home after the first 150 miles of this trip, and other times where I really miss the setup of the big KTM.

The good - I've done a huge amount of highway on this ride. The bike is an awesome mile munching machine. Comfortable and planted. I can't think of it anything negative to say about the handling, ergonomic, power, or overall experience of the rideablity of the GW.

The annoying - navigation has been challenging to downright irrigating. The OEM GPS is useless. Unfriended, non intutitive, poorly thoughtout.

Using the Google Map on the Android Auto is better, but severely limited in functionality. Plus, if I don't stick the phone in a bag of ice it will overheat and shutdown. I miss my Zumo!!!!

Packing the small side cases has also been less than ideal on the GW. I know how to pack an Adventure bike. The GW is more limited than you'd guess.

So far, the negatives can be addressed with further setup. Adding a GPS and luggage rack will make a massive improvement.

More later...gotta hit the road

. . . . Packing the small side cases has also been less than ideal on the GW. . . .
I was surprised at the lack storage size on my neighbor's last gen 'Wing. The cases are big, but odd shaped. He can't put a case of beer/soda in his. But the Tenere's OE boxes fit the case perfect. And the new 'Wing's cases look even smaller.

I don't think any bike can beat the 'Wing in comfort for ultra-distances.
Except for taller riders. I really wanted to buy a Gold Wing several times over the years, I took several test rides and just couldn't get comfortable on one. The dealers even commented that they sometimes don't work for tall guys. I'm 6"4" with long legs, Even with a custom seat there just wasn't enough leg room. The Gold Wing is an engineering masterpiece with an unmatched reliability record.
I wound up buying a Harley Davidson Electra Glide. Very comfortable even 2 up, but not much for reliability...or resale! Traded it in on a Super Tenere.

Highway - that's easy, GW 100%

Twisty, like the wonderful SE Ohio roads i did today - that's a toss-up. I won't push either on rain soaked roads. SAS has superior ground clearance, but don't need it in those conditions. Slight edge to GW for adjustable wind sceeen...very slight.

I’ve heard rumors of ability to direct heated air onto the driver. That would be winner winner chicken dinner.
i don't have those vents...yet.

I'm 6' the GW ergos work well for me. Last 2 days, not sure how many hundreds of miles I've done in almost constant rain. I tend to only stop for gas in those conditions. I don't eat or drink. Too much hassle. Pushing 6 to 8 hours a day sitting on my stock seat. Perfectly satisfied, with ergos.

I had the opportunity to ride a minty '22 DCT today. Beautiful bike. Took me 2 minutes to adjust to the DCT. After riding a bit I did realize that it's just too much of a good thing for me. Don't love the seating position and it is a BIG bike. Not a criticism just not the match I hoped it would be.

Curious what phone are you using? I have the cheapest Samsung Galaxy you can buy and it has never overheated. I keep it tucked safely away in my jacket pocket so no airflow either. I have yet to use it with AA on a 90°+ day though. Battery life lasts and entire days ride if you limit phone use mainly for AA navigation.

I keep my Zumo on for backup but never set it for navigation anymore. Just keep the display zoomed in far more than AA for a different view. Google turn by turn voice commands are far superior to Garmin and real time traffic alerts are much better as well.
