As I said, I really like the Holan boxes, and my dealing with Motorcycle Insight. It is a real shame that Holan was not able to meet their commitments.

It will be interesting to see how dealing with Holan direct will be. :(

As I mentioned previously, I had no problem with them and they were a lot more responsive than some other oversees suppliers in Europe when it comes to answering email etc. O:)

Assuming Aleksandra is there you get a quick response most of the time (or at least I have). I just used info@holan.pl and it all went smoothly, but maybe I was lucky?

Matt

sent an email to aleksandra. thought shipping might be prohibitive but worth asking. she said i m the second to ask but yes it would be expensive. she note 5 sets are crated to ship and it would be more economical and they would discount the cases. I m not set up to do something like this but know others are. she said get three others on the forum interested and someone to take the shipment. then split cost. after the moto insight fiasco i was just planning to go with zegas but since the deer hit i have a month of down time so was in no hurry to order from TT.

So wondering if any of the vendors here are interested in importinh the shipment of five.

thought i'd throw in the exact response to my inquiry:

hello Terry,

We have already packed 5 sets for Yamaha Super Tenere on stainless
steel pannier racks with 2x 38l Nomada Pro cases. We have prepared them
for our US importer but we do not longer cooperate.
Shipping of one set is very expensive but shipping 5sets is more
profitable. We have another customer from US who is interested in this
set so if you could find 3 more people (for example on forum) we could
send one big parcel and give you 15% discount from our prices..

Let me know if you would be interested in this solution. The shipment
of 1 set would cost round 150 euro:( I will confirm later what would be
the cost of shipping these 5 sets.

best regards
Aleksandra

It seems that if one outfit capable/permitted/licensed to import that the final cost of these would not differ much from what we knew the price was already if another prepped them to get here and shipped out. $1050ish right. I would be interested in a set but I have no experience in international commerce. I know EricV imports things like Rumbux bars from S. Africa etc. I am a bit aggravated with these guys though. If they have the product ready now why didnt they follow through with Moto Insight? If an importer took these at wholesale then perhaps cost would be less if interested importer wasn't after a big gain from it after thier own costs.

Then again I am wondering if it is as simple as the manufacturer just sending the stuff to a taker and moving from there? Like you were sayin split the costs.

I wonder the same if they couldn't do it with Moto Insight how can we trust them to work with us. also there is the in USA shipping.

I expected that they would have some to ship and be able to redirect to each of us and the profit Moto Insight would have made could have off set shipping.

additionally what about a damaged bag.

I'm out and ordering touratechs. Maybe Zegas as the Pros look like a billboard...not into that.

Good luck. If I never hear about Holans it will be too soon!

houndsman...not sure if you are also talking to holan in poland or not but this is what aleksandra sent me when I told her I was not set up to receive and ship 5 sets of bags.

hello again Terry,

Please below see the calculation for the 3 sets for Yamaha:
The price for 1 set with the discount would be 550euro without the VAT,
shipment of 3 sets (123kg) is:

Below are our rates in Fedex:
71-99kg - 2,85 euro/kg
100-299kg - 2,09 euro/kg
300-499kg - 1,77 euro/kg
+ 18,5% fuel charge

123kg with the fuel charge = 123 x 2,09 euro + 18,5 % = 306 euro

so the price for 1 set (together with the shipment - 102 euro each)
would be 652 euro..

The shipment in these rates has to be sent to the big city with the
airport.

We have another customer interested in this set, I can send him your
email if you would be interested in 3 sets.

Please let me know

best regards and have a nice day
Aleksandra

sounds like they are cutting a deal to dump the bags but I can't see re-shipping in the USA or dealing with warranty issues.

Having said all that if they cut a killer deal where I could get two sets for a reasonable price I would!?!?!

damn Matt you had to go and do that. My local S10 buddy bailed and went with the Yamaha panniers a month ago after the issues with Moto Insight. His and my shipping probably would have been even up to the Moto Insight price.

It wouldn't be such a big issue if I didn't like their look and trust their construction....it's all the other crap that is attached to trying to own them!

If they can't commit to a distributor in the U.S. that is ordering in volume and will provide them a nice profit from one large order..... .what makes you think they'll be any better for an individual? Maybe they will... but it just smells funny.

The bags look great and if I lived in Europe I probably wouldn't care so much and there may not be so many issues w/distribution... but, order some Jesse bags and you get them in a week, that's what I did and I feel the extra $ you pay is not only worth bypassing the hassle but I feel the bags are the best out there.... just my opinion and I'm glad there were issues because I wouldn't have ended up w/Jesse bags if not.

I can well understand the feeling of unease for you guys, with the way things turned out with Moto Insight and their problems getting the Holans they needed.

I like the quality of the Jesse cases, and in fact I was offered a substantial discount making them around the same price as the Holans. When it came down to it I preferred the look of the Holans and went with them, but if the they were not an option I suspect I would go for Touratech.

I meant to post this earlier as well but ran out of time.... the view from the read showing the 45 litre Holan cases.

Yep Matt, that's the fit that brought me to Holan in the first place and even Touratech can't match that. Shame they don't offer a cut out bag.

I did send an email through the Holan website from Poland but have no response. Perhaps you have a different contact than I do. If they have what (3?) sets ready to go are you interested Terrysig? Its a faith game at this point.

If you dig through their website there is a link that is noted to go to Aleksandra. And Matt mentioned he had good luck once he started contacting her.

I emailed and asked about ordering directly figuring that they as a couple sets that were to go to Moto Insight. Sure enough they claimed five are boxed ready to ship to the states. When I told her by email that I wasn't set up to take over import activities and redistribution she has now suggested that getting three folks together would cost about $850 to get them to a major airport if divided by three.

But you can imagine the issues. First off what if one of the three comes in damaged. How about the reshipping. Me on the east coast you on the west and who knows where the third person is. Although Aleksandra says she will forward my contact info to whoever it is.

The only positive about me getting involved is that they are used to sending to Pittsburgh as the home of Moto Insight and I live a half hour from the airport.

My interest remains because I like the box look of the bags. I alos like how the lids work. So far very close to touratech. But what I think sets Holan apart is the tight mount of the exhaust cut out.

What are you thinking? I'm down and out until the end of the month healing injuries from a deer hit and the bike is in worse shape so I do have time. But at the end of the month if this isn't settled I will order the 31/38 Tourtech setup...although with some regret.

Poland has gone through a lot of privatization of public companies. More than likely there's some serious management issues. I do business with a certain company and it seems a lot like Switzerland where there's no sense of urgency.

Yea no doubt, one would think that private business anywhere would take pride in thier prods and business by including a sense of urgency to satisfy thier customers. I guess you can drill all of the oil out of the ground but if it doesnt get to market then we go to a place that efforts that to happen. What sucks about this is the product is a good one. But many are turned off by the shaky logistics.

Yes it's disappointing that this company is giving everyone in the U.S. the middle finger. I try to buy American wherever I can. I cant's over pay for certain things, like Harley Davidson but if you can, keep it home. These little injection molding houses and fabrication shops employ Americans. Does Happy Trails make their own Panniers?
