Just remembered - I still have the Hippo Hands from my Versys. I'll post something up in "Little Pimpin".

The Rocky Mt bar mitts work great on a dirtbike but feel too small for the S10 and look kinda ghetto. I think my next farkle will be the A'ME heated grips. Less than half the cost of Yamaha grips and much cleaner design.

I agree Hippo Hands are not the most stylish farkle going. My Versys already had heated grips, but the backs of my hands would still freeze (along with my thumbs). After blocking the wind with Hippo Hands, the heated grips were more than enough to keep all of my hands toasty. When your hands are freezing, do you really care how it looks?

I've had the quadboss hippo hands on my S10 for about 9k miles now, and have found that they do not hold up in the long run, particularly with constant highway force winds. They definitely helped while they were intact. Riding through Tennessee, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, and Arkansas just before Christmas, I ran into some very strong winds - 40-50 mph gusts for an extended period of time. At one point, my gas mileage was in the high 20s because of the wind (I was running my usual 75-80 indicated). The QB hippo hands were flapping mercilessly in the wind and lost a good bit of their rigidity, which made them flap more. Shortly thereafter the stitching on the hems started to come out, and it wasn't long before the lining and then the outer fabric began to fray and come apart. By the time I went through Texas and Oklahoma, they were looking substantially worse, and I found that I would occasionally get my left hand between the lining and the outer layer. This is not optimal when you need to reach the clutch in a hurry. :D

I realize that these were somewhat extreme conditions, and that the mitts would probably still be fine if they hadn't been exposed to essentially 120+ mph winds for 300+ miles. I would love to get a pair of the real hippo hands from Canada, but there is not enough of the winter left to make it worthwhile. Pics attached. Sorry the left side is blurry for some reason.

Now that Im into the cold season here in Tn I cannot say enough about the hippo hands and heated grip combos. I ride to work about 65 miles round trip each day and only wear mechanic style gloves with the heated grips (oxfords) at 40 perc.. Hands are warm. No wind. Personally if my hands are warm I can ride in any weather. It's been high teens low 20"s and have been riding comfortably. I have found the hippo hands holding up under constant highway use and no sign of wear. I don't think I would be riding without them in the cold weather.

The Hippo hands sound great, could you tell me if they are water proof and how quickly can they be installed. The winters here in Australia can very day to day and was wondering if you could quickly remove them when the weather turns warm and dry.
Thanks for your help

I live in Southern California so the rain is rare but they seem to me like there pretty water proof/resistant - keep in mind there is a big hole to jam your hand thru but I don't think you will have a soaked material issue. Feels like the water will bead up/roll off them.

They go on in about 10 seconds or less..

My son's Q.B. hippo hands did the same thing on the Dalton highway, He's on a 990. My Q.B. hippo hands are still fine after the same trip and now lots of use for the last two winters.
