Higher wind screen - help and advice needed

Hi!
I'm in need of some help and advice.
I'm on the hunt for a higher wind screen and have searched for information online but without any luck. I drive a '13 Super Tenéré with the original wind screen, which is 17,3'' (44 cm), and a Touratech GPS-holder which allows for adjustability for the wind screen, I've also got wind deflectors on the bike.
I've got several slipped discs in my back which means I've got problems with severe pain already to start with. Then I also start experiencing severe pain in my neck already after just a few hours of riding at highway speeds of 75 to 80 mph (120-130 km/h) because of turbulence around the helmet. I've tried putting the seat in the lowest possible position without it solving the problem of pain when riding. I'm 5' 10'' (178 cm) and what I'm curious to know is whether anyone has had the same problem with turbulence induced neck pain and is of the same approximate height and if you've tried a higher windscreen and what the results were. I'm planning a long trip this summer through Europe which means this will be of great importance for my riding comfort during the trip.
I would also be grateful to know if anyone has tried higher wind screens without having had my kind of problems with pain and what you thought of the results as compared to the original wind screen.
Please specify the difference in wind screen height and breadth as compared to the original wind screen if you can.
I'm grateful for any help that you can give me!

I tried several differant windscreens. Tall ones that I had to look thru. I am 6' 3" and did not like looking thru.
I tried a MRA X-creen and have not looked back. I don't wear ear plugs anymore because there is no wind blowing across my helmet and I can look well over it. Also it is ajustable so if I want to set it high to block rain I can or swing it down for riding off raod and it is out of the way.

I'd like to know more from folks that have used the MRA. I'm 6'2 and have a 22" tall screen, but the wind is still deafening ripping across the top of my helmet.

I don't really want to go with a huge Parabellum, because I dont mind the breeze, just the noisy turbulence.

OP, have you tried no screen at all? I did and the air is pure and smooth. Was very nice. I just can't stand the rat-bike look. The OEM screen just dumps the wind in my face.

I found that titling the screen back really helped get rid of the helmet turbulence. I am 5'8", OEM tall screen, OEM Deflectors, Touratech Bracket...... Maybe half way up in the mounts adjustment with a nice tilt back. I had it more upright and the turbulence was terrible.

I'm 6'1" tall and use the MRA screen with a Touratech bracket. The combination has worked good for me. Calm airflow with the bracket adjusted to raise the screen up high with the wing on the shield providing fine tuning of airflow. I like this setup for winter and long highway stints. For hot weather the screen is adjusted down and the wing adjusted to provide better venting for my helmet. HTH

Question for the original poster: What helmet are you wearing?

I am 5"11" tall. Using the windscreen that came with my 2012 Super Tenere on a Madstad bracket. Also using Yamaha side wind deflectors. And I wear a Shoei RF1100 helmet. I use the chin wind guard in my helmet. Pretty workable combination for me.

I have a California Scientific/Calsci shield, size "large". Couldn't be happier. In addition to providing awesome wind protection, it has a pleasing shape/look, IMHO. I'm 5'11" with a 32 inseam. I find it great with seat in either position.

Welcome on, Ylivirta from Sweden. I missed you on your first post. I use a National Cycle mid-size windshield. I can't give you any specifics, other than I like it. It's taller than the stock. They also make a taller one yet for the Tenere. When you get the chance, please post under Member Intros so everyone can welcome you. ::004:: to the Forum. R. ::022::

That is the answer I always give to this question. They make them in varying heights, they have laminar airflow, there is no buffeting. Still air pocket behind the screen and I ride with my visor up ::008::

I'm 6' tall and use the factory tall windscreen with the factory mounts and the MRA deflector on top. Also an AFX helmet with a visor. The visor on my helmet was the big prob. For catching the wind, but set up I have work well. And I can drive with my visor up. Plus when riding off the highway you can push it down for better visibility.

I have the MRA X-creen with the yamaha wind deflectors and really like the set-up. No turbulence. I'm 5'10" by the way, but the screen is adjustable with the top spoiler. I'm running the Madstad bracket too.

Another MRA Xcreen user...I'm only 5'11 but have been very happy with the flexibility of the MRA. When its hot I can actually direct air onto my chest to blow air into my jacket. This keeps me pretty cool....Noticeably better on the intestae when the spoiler is up...Using the stock windshield bracket as well.

cochise325: I wear a HJC RPHA Max with which I'm very happy.

VPS1: I've also tried tilting the screen but at higher speeds untilting it gives better protection against the wind.

Old Blue: I haven't tried riding with no screen at all. I prefer having the wind screen on.

I've tried adjusting the height of the original wind screen but nothing I do does anything to lessen the turbulence or to alleviate my pain problems.

I'm grateful for all your screen suggestions. However, unfortunately far from all are available here in Sweden or even in Europe. I'm not sure if it would even be possible to order for example the California screen from the U.S. and have it shipped here. This unfortunately narrows my options.

I've checked your screen suggestions online and the manufacturer and a retailer in Germany specify different heights for one and the same product, so I don't know who to believe. Is there any way I could convince one of those of you with the MRA X-creen to go out into your garage and measure the maximum height of your wind screen?

I have the stock screen in the lowest position, and the Yamaha wind deflectors. I am very happy with the wind protection.

However, I had neck / upper back pain, and bar risers were the answer to that issue. 1" Touratech bar risers, and rotating the ends of the bar up so they were pretty high solved the problem.

That looks like a good choice for dealing with wind. I thought you might be wearing a helmet that had a visor on it, which would not be kind to your neck.

Have you considered the Madstad bracket? It allows you to tilt and raise the windshield. I found it helped me with wind buffeting. And the Yamaha side wind deflectors really help with air that is coming up at the rider from the side fairings.
