What part of Texas you plan on riding through? It's a big state. :D If you are coming into the Hill Country, I would suggest Coopers BBQ in Llano. It is really a must stop in my opinion.

The Big Texan Steak Ranch on I40 out of Amarillo is a must see if your in that area. They do have a good steak also.

If the timing is good, I can meet you in Llano. I'm leaving for Arkansas the first week in October..

.. sorry, I'm no help, my delicate palate considers a good steak a Big Mac.

but, I'll try to meet up with ya if you're in the area and the timing works out.

Not sure where I fall in the mix since I prefer a Steak-n-Shake burger to a real steak. Too bad we don't have them in Colorado....

;)

In the DFW area, Bob's Steak and Chophouse, Ruth's Chris, Del Frisco's (downtown FW), Kirby's, and there's always Cattlemen's in the Stockyards.

Oh yea.. Thanks for adding Del Frisco's.. Damn fine steak and great service. Cost $$$$ but is well worth it.

Hungry and tired, we stopped at The Ranchers Grill in Deming on our last road trip through New Mexico. Great food and service...and the steaks were huge!

Highly recommended!

Just noticed that NM and OK are included in the list...................

Just north of Santa Fe is a little hole in the wall place called "Bobcat Bite". I have never had their steak, but their Green Chili Cheeseburger is to die for!!!

:)

In in OK, may I suggest Meers for some darn good burgers!!!

I don't eat steak more than 3-4 times a year, but I've never had anything but a great steak at Taste of Texas in Houston. It's conveniently located just off of I-10 if you're passing through town. Be prepared to wait, however, as it is often very busy...so much that they built in a waiting room so folks have a comfy place to hang out while they're...y'know...waiting.
