Hello everyone...I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Troy and I just brought home my new Super Tenere this afternoon. Very impressed with this bike. I've done more reading about Adv bikes than I care to admit. It came down to the Tenere and the Tiger Explorer so I decided to test ride both of them today. The Tiger Explorer was first. The bike has great power and the breaks are awesome. The Tiger also looks awesome, but you can see where they tried to mimic the BMW. The one positive thing that stood out the most during the test ride was the power and balance...the biggest negative and the reason why I shied away from it was the riding position. It had more of a sport bike feel than a touring / adventure ride. On a 20 minute test ride I felt uncomfortable by the end...hands and back...might have been able to tweak the fit, but just didn't seem like it would fit right...I'm 5'11" 250 - 260lbs and it seemed like I was cramped on the Tiger XC.

On to the Super T! The dealer (different than the Tiger dealer) wouldn't let me take it for an extended test ride...I only got to ride it down a side street a few times. But I could immediately tell the riding position was much better than the Tiger. Another thing that I noticed the ST had over the Tiger was handling...the Super T just seemed more grounded and balanced a little better than the Tiger, but not much. I had read that the ST had a lack of power and I could see a difference were the Tiger had more, but I was very impressed with the Super T's power band as I drove it home on the highway and was able to open it up...it had plenty of power for me...others might disagree. I'm really looking forward to getting to know my new bike. I have a few long rides in store the Super Tenere. I'll make sure to update as I go...really looking forward to racking up some miles!

If you "get it" after that tiny test drive, you are gonna be mesmerized by about 4000 miles into it. And if you are one of the 10,000+ miles per year riders, this thing will own you.

Welcome! And don't stop reading now that you HAVE your ADV bike. :)

Greetings, and welcome.
I believe you will find that you have made a wise decision from more then just a riders view but from a serviceability point as well. Many more mama-yama places out there.
Enjoy,
JL

Welcome Troy from an Old West coaster (Tarpon Springs)!!

I agree with you about the Tig 800 I am 6'3" 300 lbs seat felt to short like the Multistrada gets you in the tail bone, I didn't mind the power to much as I came off a 1050 Tiger.
But I find the Tenere is much more relaxed and not so hyper of a machine can watch the world go by. It does have some throttle snatch 1st 2nd at stand still but quickly you will know when it's coming.

Nice bike for Ocala NF watch out for the sand traps, oop's Florida is one big sand trap unless you find some lime rock sorry.. ;)

Have fun send some photos Bro.. ::003::

Welcome from another Flatlander (Northeast Chapter)!

Your story is very similar to mine, it was down to the Tenere and Explorer. It only took one 10 mile test ride to sell me on the Tenere - the bike simply fit (6', 32" inseam, 180 pounds). The Explorer was still a few months from landing on our shores, and while the bike seemed perfect on paper, I'm glad I didn't wait - sat on one a few months after buying my Ten, and it just didn't fit me...at all.

As far as the engine goes, as others have said, just wait until you have a few thousand miles on her! I swear mine was still breaking in beyond 8,000 miles. And when you're ready to really wake her up get the ECUnleashed flash - it transforms the bike - and is (I believe) how the bike should have come out-of-the-box.

Welcome on, Troy from Florida. Your fondness for this bike will multiply over the next little while. I had my first one for over a year before I wrecked it. I never even hesitated ... got another Tenere. Mighty fine bike. ::004:: to the Forum, and enjoy your new machine. Keep us posted. R. ::022::
