I am currently on a KLR.
Just bought it used
to commute to the ranch a few times a week to check on livestock
and cruise the Texas hill country.

The KLR is wound too tight at 80mph legal to live a long time IMO.
I am 6'4" and over 270.

So I feel like I am on a mini bike.
And I thought my non-rubberglide FXSTC Harley put my hands to sleep.

I think about the cam chain tension mod, subframe upgrade mod
& fender lowering/fork brace mod needed to make this shortcoming last.

Thinking I might switch camps,
both my wife and daughter are on Yamahas.

My friend that has a ST
has been trying to get me to ride his.

Afraid I might like it too much.

Talk me into it

That should have been in green font :D

Seriously though, what qualitys do you love about the SuperTenere.
How smooth ,mileage,etc.

And besides a much lower price, parts, etc. than BMW
why else should i go with the ST?

Thanks in advance

Seems the general consensus on this site is that this bike does everything a BMW, Duc etc. will do, but it's an "add oil and gas and that's it" sort of machine. Structurally it seems really solid as well. I've got 25K on mine now, and it's still solid as can be.

To draw some comparisons with your current ride, the KLR, this bike is everything you may like about the KLR, minus all of it's shortcomings. More power, shaft drive, no weird wire rubbing, greater carrying capacity, tubeless tires, more comfortable seat, less vibes. 80mph all day with much more to go. Traction control and ABS. I still think a KLR would be fun, but these are the reasons I'd leave a KLR for a Tenere. I've researched KLR's quite a bit and this was what I came up with.

As for the vibes, you can feel this bike under you, but it's not intrusive. To compare to the Harley world, I'd equate the vibes to that of a later model Softail with the counter balanced motor. It's there, but not bad at all.

Welcome on, dennisnielsen from Texas. The bike is capable, competent and comfortable. The best thing for you to do is take advantage of your situation and ride the sucker. That will do it. No more discussion necessary. ::012:: Good luck with it, and let us know WHEN you get your own. ::004:: to the Forum. R. ::022::

Welcome from Oklahoma and to the forum and be careful, you might just drink the Koolaide (LOL). The S10 is quite a bike with most of the good things from other bikes and not any bad to speak of. Handling both on and off road is great and the seating position is very comfortable compared to most Dual sports. I am 6'2" and 275, it handles the weight very well and with the adjustable seating height, you can make it as comfortable as you want. Just about anything you want to do to it are available (farkles) for it if it doesn't come with it. Ride it and you will probably like it.

Like a double-wide KLR. Everything I wished for on my KLR is satisfied with the ST. Twist the throttle at 88mph and it will make you grin. ... a lot. It feels lighter on the steering (I tend to charge a bit too early into the turns and have to back out) and like the KLR it's hard to be in totally the wrong gear, just add throttle. I haven't pushed this thing real hard in the dirt yet (it's still pretty shony) but I would not be afraid to do if I had the tires to do it. Stock out of the box it runs great, gets better with miles and doesn't numb my butt. Ummm ... and did I mention it makes me smile?

I stepped away from my KLR and do not miss ANY part of it.

The S10...It has everything the KLR lacks. Need some more thrust? Aim....twist throttle. It will never lack for grunt at almost any speed. Vibes are nowhere near the degree of a big 650cc single. I ride fairly conservative with occasional fits of twistygripitis and though I am not broken in yet I am seeing 46.8 MPG as indicated by the dash readout.

If you step off the KLR onto the S10...the KLR will spontaneously disappear and you will have no recollection of it ever having existed. ;D

Build quality is better, too.

Thank you everyone.

You Texans ever do the twisty from Leakey to Campwood?

Highway 337 is fun. ::008::

I have been adding up what it will cost to Change out the already too tall KLR's first gear, sprocket changes, fork upgrades, rear shock ,timing tension upgrade, and so on
and add it up and show the wife what it will cost
to make it not even come close to the S10.

She could do with a few less shoes a month anyway.

Just had some face surgery
so as soon as I heal
I am going to my friend's dealership for a test drive.
He said $14,416.25 total price out the door.

I think if I buy one it will have to have a heavy rear spring installed from the get go for my weight.

Find that, sell my KLR for the down
and go see the critters.

If I pull the trigger on it
there will be pics.

Thanks again.

Awesome, and heal up soon. Also the tenere is worth every bit of that 14.4 price but can be had new for 1k less out the door. There are also fully farkled ones for even cheaper. I'd shop around while you are healing up.
