Just picked up my gray S10. I traded in a 2005 GS after getting fed up with reliability issues and pricey maintanance. The straw that broke the proverbial camel's back was the oil light coming on right as I crossed into Mexico on my last trip--even though it was just the oil press switch, the light took away from my enjoying the trip. I had just replaced the fuel pump too. Valves needing adjustment every 6K miles gets old too. Been riding my new Tenere the last couple days including in the rain today. I'm loving my new bike.

Welcome to the group. I am coming too from the GS world as I rode a 09 GS Adventure for 33,000 miles before the pseudo reliabilty pissed me off. For the first time for a long long time, I now have a bike that gives me a smile when riding it...

Hello and welcome from the Texas Panhandle! You've brought a great bike into your riding stable. Enjoy it, as well as the wonderful roads in your part of the State.

Welcome to the ranks, 3X. You'll be glad you made the move. The valve service on the S10 is a bit more intense, but once its done is a long time till the next one.

From another Texan, welcome. If you would rather be riding instead of talking about riding, then the Tenere is for you. She goes through gas and tires like crazy! Make sure to check out the Texas hill country thread, as we are getting together this spring.

Another Texas greeting from the DFW area. Enjoy the ride. Post up some pics. Let's see that new machine.

So far, I've added the boxes, the taller wind screen and my old GPS. This is a picture just after 250 miles to McAllen, TX.

Thanks Tabasco,

I will definitely stop by next time I'm up in your neck of the woods. I get up to Burkburnett every once in a while.

Do you have any recommendations for mechanics you trust in the San Antonio/Austin area?

I really like to get to know my mechanic and even learn how to do stuff on my own bike. I had this when I had my GS. Unfortunately, that guy specializes in BMWs only. I don't like the dealership setting where you just drop the bike off and come back to get it without talking to the person who worked on it.
