I've been wanting a Tenere for some time; finally, the savings and the price for a new old stock 2012 equaled out. :) I have a liking for black bikes, so I was happy to find a Raven at the dealer with 0 miles. I've been riding for a long time and have had mostly sport bikes with an occasional dirt bike over the years. I have come to find that my primary desire in riding is touring, and exploring back roads and small towns and out of the way places. I hated passing up some great looking dirt roads and decided that adventure bikes best fit my desires in a bike. I have long been a fan of Yamaha after past experience, and value their reliability highly. I would much rather ride than wrench. I really liked all that I saw in the super tenere, but wondered if it would feel too heavy and clumsy for the back roads and light trails. Well, finally test riding the bike was an eye opener; I have never ridden a bike of this size that felt so light and nimble. I'm enjoying it greatly, and look forward to putting many miles on it. I have other bikes, but they are a little neglected for now. The S10 is getting most of the use. I look forward to spending time here on the forum and learning from the collection of knowledge found here.

Welcome aboard!

Like Combo says, if you like it early on, chances are you'll be hopelessly addicted around 6000 miles or so. Especially if you do what you said you got it for, exploring less traveled roads.

Man, new Teneres are popping up daily! Some kind of winter surge.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome! Turner Falls is a favorite area, as is the Wichita Mtns,, Talimena drive, and most of the rest of the area. I'm looking forward to taking the S10 to my old favorite spots and to find some new ones as well. I love seeing what is over the next hill and bend of the road. The Yamaha should be ideal for that.

Congrats on the new ride. I just got my S10 and total agree with you. Compared to my KLR, the S10 amazed me with its well balanced and handling characteristics. Even with the weight increase over the KLR, the S10 feels much lighter. Can't wait to get it loaded with gear and head out on the big trip.

Greetings and Salutations from Gator Country.

For your stated mission I just don't think you'd find a better choice than the Tenere - and the thing just gets better and better with a few thousand miles on her.

Congrats and enjoy!
