Anyone notice heat from the radiator side?
It's been warm in Northern California lately, and I can really feel the heat on my left leg.
The radiator fan seems to come on and run quite frequently. (high pitched sound)
Coming from a Suzuki DL650, never had a fan start up and run like that.
Maybe Suzuki has a better radiator and cooling system.....dunno ?

Yup... but it's been above 100 every time I've ridden the bike... LOL

It is almost twice the size of your 650 so twice as loud and hot... maybe.

I think the Wee has more headroom for adequate cooling without the fan. I don't recall the fan running much on mine either, although it did occasionally. It has a pretty big radiator for a 650 (is it the same as the 1000?) and I think a front-mounted rad gets better airflow to boot.

Nothing wrong with the S10's system (in fact, the whole idea of the side-mounted radiator was to free space to allow the engine to be further forward - one reason the bike seems to carry its considerable weight so well), but it probably requires more frequent use of the elec cooling fan to keep enough air moving though the system. Part of the design tradeoffs.

My observation in general is that with the emphasis on weight and the premium on space, the mfgs are starting to depend more and more on elec cooling fans. They size the radiators at the bare minimum m to keep the bike cool at 60+ mph in hot weather, but then must rely on supplemental cooling fans for anything much slower.

I agree!

I don't mind the fan running as long as it does it's job and is reliable.
God, I'm tired of this heat and no rain. Come on cool front...... ::025::

Not an issue while riding faster than 20mph (99.99% of my riding). The fan is loud/whiny, but in my opinion better than front facing and full of mud.

My Tenere is not even 1/10 as hot as my '03 ST1300 was on a hot humid day........if it is really hot, I'll ride my KLR since with minimal HP = minimal heat!

The fan on the ST will end up running more than 'normal' due to the side placement of the radiator and the reduction in airflow thru the radiator surface as compared to a front facing radiator. Just look at the difference not only in exposed surface area of the radiator, but in airflow.

I can only feel heat from the radiator if I move my leg out a bit from my normal riding position. With my hand I cannnot feel any heat from the tank area and moving outwards until my had is past the side cover and into the slipstream.

Same for me Steve, so it doesn't bother me at all except for the air temp hitting me all over due to the high temps lately. :)
I don't know if the weather is getting old or if I am ???

Well I do know, but I am going to blame it on the weather. ::025::

It was 55F and very foggy crossing the Golden Gate today. I was wishing the radiators were on both sides :D
