So I searched for "Headlight Guard" and "Headlight Protector" and didn't get any hits, but this had to be discussed somewhere. Anyway, what headlight guards are folks using? I've seen the one that looks like a black metal screen (looks damn good), but I don't know makes it.

Also, has anyone seen clear lexan (windscreen material) protectors? If so, where and who?

Thanks.

I will install the Ventura Guard for about $35. Tabasco also offers an option.

I have headlight protectors. Check my signature for a link to my thread in Vendors.
Mine are aerospace grade urethane with 3m adhesive backing.

I'm running the Yamaha headlight guard ordered from a dealer in Canada.

As previously mentioned (I think), I have the OEM headlight guard. Clear Lexan. What I didn't know until just a bit ago was that it is held in place with a ball and socket (grommet) quick disconnect. Really neat. I wanted to clean the inside of it and accidently discovered this. A nice little bonus, although others may have this same feature. R

Hepco & Becker makes the metal screens, I have one and like it. I'll probably do one of the stick on headlight protectors just to cover anything that gets past that beast.

Hey Mellow, is that H&P Grill an easy on ‘n off part? Kind of pricy, but I can see a use for that. Looks neat too. If it’s a pain to put on when I get to the trails and take off for road riding I might think twice. It would be illegal here on the roads and this is kind of an anti-motorcycle state. Also, the shipping weight in the listing says 7 pounds. That can’t be right, is it?

This does not have an easy off option, comes with longer bolts, that's one of the parts I like about it personally. I don't remember it weighing 7lbs, that doesn't sound right.

To our Canadian friends, anyone know of a dealer that is knowledgeable in shipping to the US? I want to get the OEM headlight guard but have no experience with buying from Canada.

TIA

It's cheaper to order it from Yamabits in the UK. Around $130 shipped.

Just phone them up, place the order, give 'em your VISA number, and request shipping by Canada Post unless you're in a hurry. UPS or FedEx will be very expensive I think. They should be able to provide you with a quote. Shipping to the U. S. should be no different, just more expensive and also will have to clear Customs, which may take a couple of hours to a week. It all depends, so don't be in a hurry when you order it.

There is a note with the OEM light guard that says "for off-road use only". I think this is more of a liability issue than a legal issue, but I'm not sure. There is nothing on it that says "approved for off-road use only" or anything like that. R

Regarding my last post, If it's something fairly small, I'm happy to make the purchase and send it off to you via Canada Post if the dealer isn't willing to. Some of the larger dealers just can't or won't take the time to drop something in the mail. they just phone up the local courier and they charge whatever they want to. I know that courier shipping from the U. S. to here can be outrageously expensive. I have gotten shipping quotes on items that were free shipping within the U. S., but nearly $100 to be shipped to Canada. I'm assuming it works the other way as well. I don't know.

Anyway, if a couple of you would like me to do this, I'm okay with it. R

I have a page with a bunch of H&B pics here;

and 7lbs cannot be right - I doubt that thing weighs a pound...

so i finally got the yammy headlight guard from yamabits in the UK. it's a peculiar setup in that i've never had a headlight guard that attaches using robber grommets. it appears it will hold up well, but time will tell. i like it. here are a couple of pics...

i hope to test ride it this afternoon.
Looks good! I only wish they were more readily available here.

So what is the headlight lens made of and how easy does it break? What does it cost to replace? Generally I prefer to avoid anything on or in front of the headlight because they degrade the lighting. So if a replacement is at all reasonable, or breakage unlikely, I will run bare. Not expecting a whole lot of roost in front of me. We put the guard on my wifes F 650 GS because we found out the hard way that it is easy breaking glass and costs about $600 to replace. And we weren't even off road. That I would want to protect.

I am not sure what the Yamaha guard is made of, I would guess that it is polycarbonate, AKA Lexan, which is pretty strong. You buy these as sacrificial parts to protect more expensive pieces. I mangaged to break the headlight on a ST1100 and got luncky to find a used one for $150.00, new was over $350.00. I put guards on all my bikes ever since. I have not looked up to see how expensive the unit is on the Tenere. I liked the look of the OEM guard and ordered one from Yamabits in the UK. Rider warehouse used to sell .090 inch thick 3M film. I put this on my FZ1 and the wife's PC800. it is kinda hard to work with given the thickness but it should protect the headlight assembly.
