New member here...have followed the forum for a while and wanted to make it official with an introduction. Been on bikes since the late '60's...all kinds, but mostly off-road. Have had a pile of Huskys and Hondas that I competed on for many years, but bad knees have convinced me to enjoy the offroad world from a less 'destructive' place. I have joined a couple of buddies recently into the dualsport/adventure bike world, and am having a blast. Down to 2 bikes in my barn now...a plated XR650R, and a sweet '08 Concours 1400A. The Connie may become trade bait for a ST...and so I've been following You all trying to become familiar with the in's and out's of what owners have learned from your experiences with the bike. Looking forward to following along!...

Happy Trails,

Welcome,
I also have a plated XR650R. I got rid of my Honda ST1300 to get the Tenere. The Tenere does everything the ST1300 would do, nearly as well. Plus, it opens up the rest of the non-paved world to explore.

Thanks, talonboy...with regards to replacing Your ST1300 with the Tenere, I'm thinking the same thing about my Concours. It's a great bike, but limited in one very important way...there's miles and miles of dirt, or unimproved roads in the southwest, and most of them would be fair game on the ST, while the Connie remains pavement only. I just think I'd be able to make those long 'exploration' trips if I make the change....now finding a way to make a trade...anyone like a sweet '08 Concours?

Roswell New Mexico?

Love that place. Not exactly sure why. But rode through a couple of times this year. Stayed overnight and did some site seeing.

And they have Whataburger too!
Wasn't expecting that. :)

Welcome aboard.

Welcome!

Always a plated XR of some type, an old 350L at the moment. Always a dirtbike, an ATK 260LQ now and rode Connies through several versions then moved on to the fantastic FJR. Had three of them. Unfortunately the knees are bone on bone and I'm tall so the leg bend of the FJR was no longer comfortable.

Funny went to trade in the FJR on a fourth and was stopped in my tracks by the S10. Changed the deal right then and rode home on the S10. I'd be lying if I didn't think it was a mistake the whole way home. But slowly it won me over. With help from this forum I've added some items that make it fit me an my riding style very well. Depending on what tires I'm running I can rip the thing like a super-motard or run the fire roads in a full slide.

I trade every three years - I will be getting another one.

Cheers

Welcome on, NN from the southwest desert. I kept my Honda ST1300 for a while after obtaining the Tenere, but finally gave it up as I simply wasn't using it anymore. I predict you will enjoy the Tenere very much. Good luck with tracking one down. ::004:: to the Forum. R. ::022::

I, too, traded in an ST1300 for my Super Tenere. But I also sold an XL600R tow whittle my stable down to just one bike. I may miss the ability to tackle a tough single track, but overall I'm happy with the Yamaha. Its a great touring bike, provides adequate protection in the rain and goes down any road, paved or unpaved, that you want to explore.

Nearly Normal, did you get your bike from Champion? Also, a very good buddy of mine lives in Roswell and has a 3 month old Raven Super Ten in his possession, too.

Hey there racer1735 -

Sounds like my thoughts on trading out the Concours C1400 for a Tenere is the same thing that several of You guys have done. the ST1300 is an awesome bike...as is the XL600R, I can understand why You'd miss that one. While I'm done with competitive off-roading, I still enjoy it at the level I can do...and that's why I'll keep my XRR. About Champion...I DID buy the Connie there...it's a great dealership! They've had several ST's there...and just got a loaded '13 back in on trade with less than 1000 miles...am hoping to check it out there as I can. Small world, huh!...

I bought a honda gl1800 and rode around the us and canada and as you can see rode it on a lot of back roads. But i miss the dirt to much and bought the tenere and love it. I have it at over 80 mph on gravel roads and does great. You are going to love it. I have only had mine for a month.

Welcome aboard NN,
After pushings things a bit further then I should have this past summer, I believe you'll find that the S10 can get about as 'destructive' as one would like to. Is adviseable to have her fully dressed for such occasions. Hang on and enjoy more spills, thrills & chiils as the spirit moves ya.! ::016::

Yeser!!
Having fun in Northern New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and as far as this bike has taken me..
I did most of the far north stuff on my 2010 Triumph 1050 Tiger before it was totaled.
Now that I have the Tenere I do lots of exploring in the back roads, I do a lot of camping down in Alamogordo mainly base camp at Oliver Lee Memorial State park ten venture off..
This bike can do lots of stuff I could not do on the Triumph Enjoy. ::012:: ::26::

Welcome to the forum NN and congrats on the bike. Like the others, I came from a FJR to the Super Ten. I envy you guys that can trade bikes in! By the time I'm ready to move on all that suggestion would get me at the dealership is a good laugh! :D

The Super Ten opens up some new areas, but more often simply makes you not consider the potential bad things that could happen, like you did when taking a street bike off road. I wasn't too shy about taking the FJR off pavement, but it never let me down. With the Super Ten, more ground clearance is a very good thing!
