Saw somewhere during my lurking here that newbies are supposed to stop by and post here after joining. I'm currently considering an adventure bike or an FJR. know that may seem like a weird group, but that's just me. I don't have any desire to own a BMW, so the adventure bikes I've been looking at are the S10 and the KTM 1190. I',ve always had good luck with Yamahas from both a performance and reliability standpoint. I do have some concerns about reliability and maintenance costs with the KTM, but that thing is a rocket! Like I saw someone post here, the KTM is a lust object, but when thinking about which one I'd rather find myself 1,000 miles from home on, the Yamaha wins every time.

Welcome to the forum. Many of the members here have come from the FJR or other sport touring bikes. Good luck with your search.

Welcome claytonsdad. Either will be a great bike. I've had both types but never an FJR. Had BMW, Honda, and Kawasaki sport touring and Adventure bikes are a more comfortable ride to me and easier to stay near speed limit. Tenere is kind of like having a pick-up truck; you can do anything a car can do but still have the advantage of a truck.

Welcome,

Before I bought my ST, I was just about to buy a Honda ST1300. Then I walked over by the Adventure bikes and thought, what am I thinking? I live in Colorado.
Why would I get something that I am stuck on the road for?

I bought a Tenere.

Best decision ever.

Actually, I was really eyeing a used BMW. Not sure how many times I went back to the dealer and looked at it.

Then one day I was at our non-BMW dealer and the owner told me about his friend who bought a BMW and had to do the required BMW Alaska ride.

He said his friends dad joined him from Indiana on a Vstrom 650. During the trip, the BMW had to be in the shop about 4 times. His dad's bike had to change tires.
He came back, sold the BMW and bought a Tenere.

No more trips to the BMW dealer for me.
Found a new 2012 for $12k and It was mine.

All the dealers in my area have them on sales hold until the headlight harness recall is done. We're beginning to have some nice weather and the itch is growing progressively worse. I have found what I consider to be really good pricing on 2013s at two dealers, both of which claim to "have the parts on order, but we don't know when they'll get here." One of my riding buddies just couldn't stand the wait and pulled the trigger on a trade for a different bike yesterday. I am doing my best to be patient, but if a smoking deal comes along on an FJR before the recall is done, my weakness may get the best of me!

We'll change make&model of a multi$thousand machine, rather than wait a few days for the one we say we wanted.
It's a crazy world.

In this case it's probably a good thing. He's a cruiser guy at heart and also rides with the Harley crowd a good bit. I'm sure he wouldn't really appreciate the ribbing he would take for having "one of those" motorcycles. Me, I just want something different. I grew up riding dirt on both 2 and 4 wheels. I don't know that I will do much now, but I would at least like to have that option.

Yea, I was just grinning. Truth is, when someone can change their mind that easily, they weren't really sold anyways.
But it was a funny story.

I love him like a brother, but he never keeps a bike more than about a year, and every one he buys is the one he's always wanted! We pick at him about it all the time and he's a good sport about it, so everybody gets a harmless laugh out of it.
