Well Almost - Just done a deal on a 61-plate Ex-Dem with 149 miles on the clock - £2600 off list for an almost new bike

Got the extra's I wanted fitted FOC (Wingletts and Heated Grips) and free delivery the morning after I get back of my Holiday. So on the 1st June I wil have the bike ::015::

Now just gotta decide if I put Black or Silver Panniers on it - the bike is silver, can't decide on Silver as they are harder to mark (and don't show marks) or a nice black to offset the bike a little. I have decided on SW Motech Trax boxes as all the other SW gear I have bought in the past has been good and my SW dealer (www.chainspeed.com) provides amazing pre and post sales service. I have kept the bags connection tank bag from my GS so just need the quick lock tank ring.

Should be good to go touring by mid june.

Booking Shiny Bike Syndrome to come and ACF it on Friday 1st June (Day before long bank holiday) - if anyone near Oxford fancies a valet / ACF treatment I can get a deal - drop me a PM for details.

http://www.shinybikesyndrome.co.uk/cms/

Used the chap before and he gets bikes looking spotless, although mine should be clean enough I want to get the ACF infused throughout the electrical system and all the hard to reach places from day one - always have bikes done once per year with this guy.

See you out there ::008::

Congrats!

Hate to show my ignorance but what's the ACF treatment??
ACF-50 - google it, basically a very good protective oil originally designed for the US navy to stop airframes on their Jet aircraft from rusting, I have it applied by a guy who mists it up using a compressor and it gets into all the nooks and crannies you cannot easily reach and penetrates into wiring plugs etc.

Will post pictures when I have it done on the ST

Hi mate,

Really pleased for you. I will get my ACF done by All Year Biker at my mate Cliff's place, Adventure Bike Shop. I agree it is good stuff! If you need any other bits and pieces he is worth talking to, by the way. He is doing a good deal on the Jesse luggage at the moment. Not my style, but bloody well built.

Hoping to get to a few camping weekends in the next couple of months if that is your thing?

See you soon,

Matt

Good on you Rasher. Glad to see you getting a S10. Many hopes that you have a bloody good time on it and can't stop grinning like a fool.

My take on the bags is that black looks wonderful, but shows dirt very fast. Silver looks good too, but doesn't make it so obvious that you may not have been taking the time to wash/wax/buff/dry/polish recently. You choose, depending on your habits, what color works best for you. I love the black when clean, but knew the silver was best for me, based on my poor habit of considering a rain ride a 'wash'.

Welcome to the fold mate.

The NT forums were full of UK guys getting these valet ACF treatments too. It seems to be quite the booming business over there. I've never heard of any companies like that here. Funny how different places can be.

Congrats on the new ride! I am sure you will love it!

Decided on Black in the end, just to break up the bike a little, if it was Blue or Black bike I would definately have gone with the metal finish as it won't show marks up as well - and I could cover it in Alpine Pass stickers.

Matt,

You mean this place?

Looks pretty handy, I tend to buy anything Chainspeed do from them as I have had 6-7 years of amazing service from them, but they have a more limited range so I am sure I will be on to your mate Cliff at some point.

Yes, that is the place. The web site is a bit basic at the moment but getting better. Always has time for coffee and a chat with the punters too, and the is a biker cafe just down the road 100 yards.

I think I am due to be shop-sitting one weekend soon, so all Hegel will break loose!

Congrats ! I have the white one and live " close" by in sunny Wiltshire. Hope we cross paths soon !
I will be up for a meet sometime, first few weekends may be busy having ACF treatment, luggage fitted, first service and trying to get Autocom and Sat-Nav installed. The it will be ride-ride-ride :)

Love the White colours, best I got offered on that was £11,500, could have had new Silver one for £10,400 and got mine on a 61 plate with 149 miles for £9400 - cheaper than some dealers were asking for 10 plates with 2-3k on them!

I got back from honeymoon late last night and due to Jet Lag managed 3 hours kip before being awake, this meant I had from 4.00am until about 1.00pm to wait for the bike ::007::

It turned up and looked pretty good, as expected for the mileage, quickly got on (with the Mrs on back) for a quick 10 mile run in the countryside then came back to change the Engine Oil and FD Oil.

What a joy after the GS, the oil change was really easy, and after the GS FD oil changing this was even better, the engine oil looked clean-ish but I swear it had a metalic hue (could be my imagination) so it now has the lowest spec semi-synthetic I could find (the Silkolene stuff normally reserved for CG125's and the like. Could not find any JASO MA mineral oil in my local dealer and did not want to put any old unknown crap from the Motorist shop in there, I want it to bed in, not blow up!

Not gone back out yet, been looking at Autocom fitment options, checking tyre pressures - Oh, and done the clutch mod.

On the 10 mile run we did the lack of grunt low down in 2nd / 3rd was already driving me mad, pull away, shift to second, open throttle......and wait.....wait some more.... and then finally the bike would start to open the taps and then suddenly lurch forward - yuck!

Pre the remap options this was the one thing that stopped me buying one, and I am glad I waited, the stock throttle response is awful, it is OK for riding slowly but ask for some low down grunt in the first few gears and it just ignores you!

The clutch mod should get me by until I decide which remap route to take.

First service on the 16th, Luggage is being fittted on the 23rd (SW-Motech Trax) and then next up should be a flash followed by some suspension work.

I was chuffed to see it arrived with Tourance EXP's and not the dreaded Deathwings, I have used both before and loved the Tourances and Hated the Wings.

Will see what it does with the clutch mod come tomorow morning ::013::

Congrats. I did not think any of them came with Deathwings [Trailwings), though. Mine came with the Battlewings, and I find them excellent. Trailwings were shocking on my Strom.

The clutch mod will be switched as of this weekend on my bike, and Darren at MCT will be fitting my Wilbers in a couple of weeks. I did buy a spare set of Hitachi connectors in case anyone else wanted the switched option.

Have a fun weekend.

Be interested to find out how MCT visit goes, I had alrady spoken to Darren before buying Tenere and again recently and I think your will be the first one he does.

Are you getting a ride height adjuster?

I find the ground clearance on the Tenere quite lacking even with pre-load wound up two more notches, I decked out the Demo I tested whilst riding fairly steady, and on my gentle two up run yesterday decked my boots on almost every bend (something very rare on the GS so I am not in habbit of cornering on balls of feet)

I am planning on adding 4-6mm (or whatever Darren recommends) to the rear height which as well as helping turning should add a fair bit more ground clearance.

I posted on another thread, but Darren saw no need for a ride height adjuster. The turn-in is sharper and the ride height a little higher now.

Even with the standard shock I did not find any issues with ride height, and that was 2 up with luggage.

I have been riding around with the pre-load one line from max for solo use and whacking it up full for two-up.

Will probably get the ride height adjuster as it only adds £75 to the cost, spoke to MCT yesterday about pricing mine up, I will also be getting the forks re-worked, from riding your Darren seems to think the springs are not too far out and if anything bigger gains will be had by re-valving.

Going to go through the credit cards at the weekend (Still got some wedding stuff coming through and spent £1800 on luggage and helmets last weekend) and then work out when I will have the money ready.

It looks like about £1100 for the top of the range Wilburs with 3-way compression damping + remote pre-load + ride height adjuster, fork rework, fitting and setup which is not too bad.

What spring did they fit on your shock?
