I know it's kind of late but we are leaving this Saturday from Toronto Ontario for the west coast of the US. Hoping to arrive in Colorado by Monday. From there heading towards the Grand Canyon from there California, north to Oregon then Washington. Then maybe Vancouver Island then home through the US. Any help would be really appreciated. Looking for some really nice campsites, roads and which of your National Parks are the best to see. Yosemite, Crater Lake, Rocky Mountain National Park, Mesa Verde are on the list. We only have three weeks.

Thanks,
Paul

Paul,
Trail Ridge Road is now open in Rocky Mountain NP and it is a "must see" if you have never been here before (or even if you have, it's worth seeing again). The "Old" Fall River Road is still closed (winter snow). As for Mesa Verde - my only recommendation is to hit the park early in the day as it gets VERY hot in the afternoons there.

ENJOY!!!!

:)

Where specifically? I'm in Loveland - would love to meet you on your way through - on your way to RMNP perhaps?

Limey, You can look me up when you are around Seattle. Mt Rainier is great, as well as Mt St Helens area for riding. I can get some better ideas if you want. How are you traveling...bike, car, RV??? You and your wife?

Sounds good Jeff we will be traveling by bike the wife on her 2000 Heritage Softail and myself on my 2004 Road Glide. The wife is visiting her Aunt in Portland for a day & I would like to ride up to Mt St Helens that day.

Are you going to ride highway 1 and 101 along the california, oregon, washington coast? You have a bunch of good places on your itinerary. Crater lake is very pretty and if my memory serves me correctly there should still be snow at the top of the park. Yellowstone, Glacier (going to the sun road), and Tetons might be of interest to you. Have fun on your ride.

I just happened to think - Going to the Sun Road may still be closed this early in the season.

limey, I suggest you check the Glaciar NP website for current road closures.

Going to the sun road is not open and probably won't be for a while considering the spring we are having.

Kinda figured that for sure. We did a trip through that part of the country a few years ago enroute to Canada in June and it was closed then.

Hi Rod we will be heading through Loveland. It would be good to meet up for a brew or Coffee. The Wife and her Friend did the Fall River Road in 2009 and tried the Old Fall river road but had to turn back because of road conditions. Both on HD Softails with the suspension lowered 2" on the rear and 1" on the front (wife is a tall girl at 5' 1/2"). Any recommendations on Camping?

Thanks Paul..

:)

We are hoping that Going To The Sun Road will be open by approximately June 29th. I did it back in 2009 and Yellowstone , Grand Tetons and the best ride of my life the Beartooth pass. We are trying to figure out the best route to take from Golden Gate to Crater Lake and up to Portland we definitely need to do the coast. Any recommendations would be appreciated..

Yes, by all means - would like to meet you and your wife. Try to give me some idea when you will be coming through and we will see what we can arrange. I will PM my cell number. My email is colorider at yahoo dot com

Riverview RV Park and Campground is about 4 miles west of Loveland on US34 (on the way to RMNP). See their website here: http://www.riverviewrv.com/ for details. There is also one coming into Loveland from the east - a mile or so after you cross I-25. Not sure if it has quite the "camping" feel as the one west of town.

So, this where we are at, 900 miles into the trip. Everything was going well till the wife's Softail conked out. So no we are stuck in Indianola Iowa. Hopefully getting it to the dealer first thing in the morning. It may throw us out by two days.

I just got back from a nice visit with Paul (limey) and his lovely wife Karen. They are camping near Estes Park for a couple nights and had been in at the local HD dealership for some work on Karen's bike.

Tomorrow they plan on making a nice loop ride up through RMNP, Granby etc and eventually back up to CO 14 and down the Poudre Canyon. This is a great loop and I'm sure they will enjoy it.

Looking forward to seeing them again - either or up in Ontario Canada someday!!!

(and yes - I should have taken some pictures!!!!) ;)

Did he say what the problem was with the HD that caused it to quit?

The original problem ( a few days ago) was the battery. The problem now is apparently related to "crud" in the gas tank which seems to be building up and choking off the fuel filter when the tank gets down to about half. Seems to stem from the process (perhaps failed) to refurb and apply a sealer to the inside of the gas tank.
