I'm sure most have noticed this but in case not, you can note a 2:1 ratio between speed and RPM to tell if you're in high gear, more or less (e.g., 80 mph indicated is about 4K RPM). I'd rather have a gear position indicator or a high gear light, but this is pretty easy to see at a glance.

GiPRO gear indicator works pretty well. Must have clutch out for nearly a second. Sometimes gets confused at low speed while you are slipping the clutch, may show 1st when you are actually in 2nd. Hard to find a good location for display, I have ended up with it below the instrument cluster on the center brace. The throttle cables are partly in the way, my GPS on a ram mount is in the way and I must raise up some to look over it. The 5 looks sorta like 6 or vise versa in the sun glare.

after the flash and pcv and all the other mods, i found that 6th gear was more like 5th in terms of torque, this made me continuously keep trying to find another gear. so this is my solution.
healtech GIpro gear indicator. in blue to match the bike 8) 8) 8)

it works really well, in all gears great bit of kit

It would be very helpful if you could give us a step by step installation guide. The Healtech website doesn't offer much. I'd like to install one without installing a speedo healer, can you help us with the installation instructions?

I have a red one on my other bike, and it's definitely easier to read in direct sunlight than the blue.

Where did you tap in the WHITE wire and where did you tap in the GREEN wire?

Used a GIpro indicator on my Bandit 1250S and liked it. Would not mind having a gear indicator on the ST and think your installation looks good. ::008::

Thanks for the links, but both are for a Speed Healer and Gear indicator..

In the advrider link, I don't see any specific reference to the gear indicator wires...

If you could just tell us where the green and white wires of the GIpro attach to... that would help.. the Speedohealer just adds complications that amateurs like us find confusing. ::008::

No they are not.

From the link to my post

"For the SpeedoHealer V4 only:

1) See the attached pics and locate the left-most connector on the ECU. Find the BLUE wire (the speed signal lead from the ABS computer to the ECU). This is the wire that will be cut and the SpeedoHealer spliced into. The ABS function will not be compromised as this signal is after the ABS Computer and just tells the ECU how fast you are going.

2) Cut the BLUE wire about 2" back from the connector.

3) On the 'Connector' side of the BLUE wire you just cut, splice in the 'WHITE' SpeedoHealer lead. This should be soldered and sealed in heat-shrink tubing..

4) On the 'Wiring Harness' side of the cut BLUE wire, splice in the 'GREEN' SpeedoHealer lead. This should also be soldered and sealed in heat-shrink tubing.

5) Connect the 'RED' SpeedoHealer lead to the Red/White ECU wire (using the provided tap-in Posi-Loc connector) or to any switched power of your choice.

6) Connect the 'BLACK' SpeedoHealer lead to the Negative terminal on the battery or any suitable ground location.
============================================

To install the Gear Position Indicator GiPRO-X (aka GPX) do the following:

1) follow the steps above, EXCEPT you DO NOT CUT the BLUE wire. The WHITE lead from the GPX is simply tapped into the BLUE wire using the supplied POSI-LOC tap connector.

2) The Black/Green (RPM signal) lead from the GPX is tapped into to the GRAY wire on the same ECU connector using the supplied POSI-LOC tap connector.
============================================
"

The GPX wiring are steps 1 & 2 labeled "To install the Gear Position Indicator GiPRO-X (aka GPX) do the following:" directly ABOVE.

That would be a nice addition but $150.00 and you have to splice it in b/c they don't make them for our Yammi bikes. Ouch!

Thanks for all the info learned in this thread, I installed the GiPro gear indicator this evening. The hardest part was reaching the blue wire on the ECM. There are 3 blue wires: Blue/black stripe, blue/ red stripe and blue with beige dashes. It's the latter wire to use with the white wire of the GiPro. The green wire with the gray wire on the right side ECM plug. I used Posi-Taps to tap into those 2 ECM wires.

When the GiPro is learning the gears, but running the bike on the center stand through the gears, the computer throws an ABS and engine fault.. The engine fault stayed lit until I went out for a ride.. both ABS and engine fault lights went out. ::012::
