Rode to the FJR breakfast gathering in Bedford on Sunday .
We were standing around bikes and I noticed a nail sticking
out of the rear tire . It was at a pretty sharp angle sticking in one
of the knobs so I was optimistic that it wasn't all the way through
and knew pulling things out of tires away from home was a bad
idea. Been there done that . When I got home I had 10 psi . I also
noticed tire is showing some cracking but this has already been
discussed so I'm going to ignore it . Tire is now plugged and I'm
going to keep useing it for a while . Doesn't need any air anyway .

The K60's will ride at hwy speed with no pressure in them, but when you go to apply front brakes, hold on, it gets squirmy!!! I had this happen last week on my front tire. I lost all air somehow. Fileld it back up, then checked it. Losing about 5psi now every 4 days or so. I have to look into it a bit further. It was surely scary, as I have never had this happen before.

They are also not a radial and have really stiff sidewalls, which is why mounting at least the rear is a bitch.

I got a nail about 4-5K ago... Plugged it up and keep on going.. Bad thing is I road on a fully loaded bike going 70 for about 2-3 hours on a flat tire... That squared it off pretty good, but im still on the same tire.. I didn't know it was flat till at a truck stop it came off the beads of the rim... Then I knew... :D

I checked tire pressure the other day (need to be mroe religious about it). The front had dropped to 26 psi. I juiced it back up to 38 and really didn't feel much difference. I'm just commuting, so not doing any hard starts/stops. Will keep a better eye on this. If it keeps leaking, might need to have the installer take a look at it. ::024::

Just curious... What do people usually run on thier k60's? On and off road....

Would also be interested in hearing opinions on pressure for the Battlewings as well.

I had the front K60 go flat on a day trip on my Wee due to a dented rim. By swerving sharply on pavement I could tell when the handling got slugish that it was below 10psi. Stop air it up and keep going until I got home. ::008:: I really like these tires. They are kind of a bitch to remove and install but worth it

i am bigger guy!! I run 40-42 in rear and 38-40 in front and had no problems doing some of the WABDR this summer. Sure there were some slices on the tires, but no punctures. There are other threads on this though, so don't want to continue a whole long thing.

Last Monday was headed to the California Coast for a four day trip. About 90 miles on I-80 and the Tenere was squirming around the lane. Pulled to the side of the road, reduced to 20 MPH, took the next exit and into a Chevron station. We found the hole and plugged it, aired up, pulled onto the road, HEAVY WOBBLE. Turned around within 50 feet and back to the station. The bead was set but the tire was damaged internally which made it out of round (radius and lateral). The rim is true(ish).

Found a tire at Cycle Gear 18 miles away. Rode it there, scary at slow speeds. Could not remove the axle nut. Was cross threaded at the dealer when they replaced a seal in the final drive.

Other than my fat ass the Tenere was not heavily loaded. Was it right for the tire to break down? Jaxon said he road for 2-3 hours and the tire was good?

Hiya Tim!!
The part that amazes me is they cross threaded the axle. ??? That takes some real effort!!

Wouldn't think your riding it should have caused any internal damage. Possibly riding it for a while with whatever was in there did your damage. Have had the same happen on another tire.

Maybe I'm finally getting better at changing tires, but I removed a rear K60 and reinstalled my original K60 last week and thought it went pretty easily. I was happy because I usually end up saying a lot of bad words when changing tires.

I run 38psi in the rear and 33 up front.

I found running 4,500 miles on a long trip with a ton of highway and very little dirt resulted in almost no wear on the tire. My normal spinning the tire in the dirt and seeing the TCS2 light blinking a lot on the pavement has resulted in more accelerated wear. Overall I'm extremely happy with the performance of the K60 rear. And the front still going strong after more than 14K miles is insane. I've found my tire for the foreseeable future. ::008::

I installed front and rear K60's yesterday. They both went on pretty easily, which was lucky since firefight911 was in occupying a front row seat in the peanut gallery. :D

It's likely not a cross thread, cross threading would have to start from the beginning, they never would have gotten the nut bottomed out. Over torque is more likely what they did, impact gun or something. Nut bottoms out, threads start stretching, metal gals/fuses, that's all she wrote.

Good to hear things are on schedule Trevor. When's she going into the shop? At this rate you'll still be in town on the 10th.

I'm on my second set of K60s, third rear. Both fronts lost air over time. No rim issues, (well, there was that big dent that I had repaired, but both fronts lose air at the same rate, a couple of psi a day, even prior to the dent). I run with panniers and a fuel cell, and am a big boy at 250 lbs w/o gear, so run 42 rear and 36 front. Heidenau does not recommend over 40 psi, fwiw. No cracking or other issues and good wear for me, though this last rear suffered from high speed NV use.

The axle repair is complete and a new rear K60 installed. The tire that had a flat had large bubble almost all the way around the inside of the tire. The dealer is sending it to the distributor to have it evaluated. Would be nice to get another rear K60.

I run 38f 40r psi most of the time, but I've dropped it down to 25/25 a few times when I was expecting lots of off-road action, and there was no noticeable difference. After plugging the rear after a nail, I forgot to refill it and rode for awhile at 16 psi, even then, very little noticeable difference.
