I've pulled chainsaws out of the shed that have been sitting for 2 years. They fired right up with ethanol gas and stabil.
Same here (just only 15 years, I had a long time without motorcycle, instead young kids)For the last 30 years, I've stored my bikes for 3-5 month every winter.
All I do is fill the tank to the brim (with 5% ethanol fuel) and hook up a battery tender.
Every year the bikes have fired up in the spring with no issues.
So, I guess fuel stabiliser does work. We all should be aware of the vagaries or shortfalls of gasoline that contain ethanol. Moisture, lesser miles per gallon, possible damage to seals in some engines.I've pulled chainsaws out of the shed that have been sitting for 2 years. They fired right up with ethanol gas and stabil.
If you want a trouble free beginning to the next riding season, just fill your gas tank with a high octane fuel that doesn't have any ethanol and add fuel stabilizer.Me either. I can remember the 70's with gummed up dirt bikes running regular gas too.
I'm not having any issues, but when I had to start using ethanol, my mileage dropped by 2 mpg.….I have been using gas with ethanol since it first became available and it has NEVER caused me any issues....
My FJ would start gumming up at about 6 weeks. And, that was pre-ethanol. I've been using STA-BIL ever since, so....Me either. I can remember the 70's with gummed up dirt bikes running regular gas too.
Yup, gotta support those starvin farmersUnfortunately here in the Downstate / Metro NY area we have no choice.
Does Uncle Sam know any better than Johnny Canuck or John Bull?Uncle Sam knows best
I am quite familiar with this list, unfortunately none of the places listed are reasonably close to the Metro NYC, NY LIhttps://www.pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=NY
Ethanol free gas listed by state. Also be aware Stabil has a shelf life.
Yup, you have it nailed..helping out the poor farmers. Agree that not all premium gasolines are ethanol free. Look at the labels on the gas pumps or look at the gas companies websites or just phone them. There's one misconception being repeated here that just isn't so. That is that higher octane gas doesn't have ethanol added. While that may be the case in some places, it's not the case across the board. In this neck of the woods, all gas has ethanol in it unless it specifically says it doesn't. The owner's manual calls for premium unleaded gas with no reference to ethanol one way or the other. I use ethanol free gas everytime I can get it because ethanol does no good and there is absolutely no downside to using pure gas. I guess if ethanol has an upside it is that it cuts down on oil consumption by 10% and helps the "poor" farmers out.
How does the use of ethanol gas have an impact on oil consumption??Yup, you have it nailed..helping out the poor farmers. Agree that not all premium gasolines are ethanol free. Look at the labels on the gas pumps or look at the gas companies websites or just phone them.
But good luck speaking with someone who can conclusively answer the question of whether their premium gas is ethanol free or not.
I know of two brands of premium gas that claim to be ethanol free up here in Ontario Canada. A Super Tenere with a 400 kilometer range offers you to plan fuel stops to get ethanol free gas.
