I've pulled chainsaws out of the shed that have been sitting for 2 years. They fired right up with ethanol gas and stabil.

For the last 30 years, I've stored my bikes for 3-5 month every winter.
All I do is fill the tank to the brim (with 5% ethanol fuel) and hook up a battery tender.
Every year the bikes have fired up in the spring with no issues.

Check this out:

Same here:) (just only 15 years, I had a long time without motorcycle, instead young kids;))

So, I guess fuel stabiliser does work. We all should be aware of the vagaries or shortfalls of gasoline that contain ethanol. Moisture, lesser miles per gallon, possible damage to seals in some engines.

In general the possible bad effects of ethanol have been very highly exaggerated , I have been using gas with ethanol since it first became available and it has NEVER caused me any issues.
i do mostly use ethanol free gas in my Tenere And chainsaws simply because that’s what the factory recommends .

Me either. I can remember the 70's with gummed up dirt bikes running regular gas too.
If you want a trouble free beginning to the next riding season, just fill your gas tank with a high octane fuel that doesn't have any ethanol and add fuel stabilizer.
Up here in Ontario Canada we have several gas stations that have 91 or higher octane gas and they don't have any ethanol. Canadian Tire,
Shell gas, to name a few, but not all premium gas is free of ethanol.
Ethanol definitely collects or attracts moisture. Experiments have been conducted and the results conclusively reveal that fuel containing ethanol definitely attracts or collects moisture or water and causes corrosion to the interior parts of any vehicle, car, motorcycle or lawnmower or whatever.
Just sayin

I read or saw somewhere how to check for ethanol content in your gas you take a small sample of gas, add a known small quantity of water, then wait for the water and gas to separate, then measure the water, which will be collected at the bottom, and all ethanol with it.
So for my test here, I took 100ml of gas, added 10ml of water, then later measured the water which still was 10ml, so I am using ethonal free fuel for the test at least if this info is correct.
Actually if you have time and skills and correct jugs ect, you can take ethonal "enriched" fuel, add water, then drain off the water/ethanol to get pure gas. Like I say, this is info I've read, I don't have experience to say it's truth or balony.

I'm not having any issues, but when I had to start using ethanol, my mileage dropped by 2 mpg.

My FJ would start gumming up at about 6 weeks. And, that was pre-ethanol. I've been using STA-BIL ever since, so....

There's one misconception being repeated here that just isn't so. That is that higher octane gas doesn't have ethanol added. While that may be the case in some places, it's not the case across the board. In this neck of the woods, all gas has ethanol in it unless it specifically says it doesn't. The owner's manual calls for premium unleaded gas with no reference to ethanol one way or the other. I use ethanol free gas everytime I can get it because ethanol does no good and there is absolutely no downside to using pure gas. I guess if ethanol has an upside it is that it cuts down on oil consumption by 10% and helps the "poor" farmers out.

I've "heard" that premium doesn't have as much ethanol as the lower grades, but it's still there. Kinda made sense to me since the labels say "may contain up to 10% ethanol". But, so far, the mileage decrease is the only change in the way my motor runs.

Here in EU the law dictates that all gasoline must contain at least 5% ethanol, so we don't have a choice in that regard (unless you want a higher percentage of ethanol).
I know all the theoretical downsides of using fuel with ethanol and have seen evidence that back it up, but in reality I haven't noticed any difference since I started using fuel with ethanol several years back.

I believe the bad was when E gas came out fuel systems had stuff built up. Ethanol cleaned it up all at once plugging filters and carb jets. Plus older plastic lines were not ethanol stable and went bad.

A newly built bike designed for ethanol has never built up any crud so a tank now and then or all the time keeps it clean with no harm done.

Yup, you have it nailed..helping out the poor farmers. Agree that not all premium gasolines are ethanol free. Look at the labels on the gas pumps or look at the gas companies websites or just phone them.
But good luck speaking with someone who can conclusively answer the question of whether their premium gas is ethanol free or not.
I know of two brands of premium gas that claim to be ethanol free up here in Ontario Canada. A Super Tenere with a 400 kilometer range offers you to plan fuel stops to get ethanol free gas.

How does the use of ethanol gas have an impact on oil consumption??
I've never experienced an oil consumption problem with any of my late model bikes, Tenere, Africa Twin CB650F.
