Im thinking of adding a Formotion thermometer to the bike.. Ive seen them on other bikes before. This would be much more accurate than the dash LCD. Anyone own one ? What are your thoughts ?

I have one on my Royal Star, one of their clocks too. Nice, tough little buggers. The thermometer is as susceptible to warm updrafts from the engine as our intake temp sensor is. Mine is only really accurate first thing in the morning. You almost need something like what gets stuck to the kitchen window and has a remote sensor outside so you can tell the temp without having to get dressed. A remote sensor, in the shade, away from random heat sources... I dunno if that is really a possibility on a bike. Too close to the ground and the asphalt will blaze, under the seat, both engine and exhaust get ya, behind the windscreen, solar magnification gets you. Formotion, nice products though.

I had one mounted on my Vee Strom. It was neat looking and worked well in the shade. When the sun hit it any accuracy went away. I find the air intake temp. on the S10 to be more accurate. I do like the Formotion Thermometer though...

Hey Jaxon, I have one on my Strom and will probably put it on the XT soon. It works as others have said, pretty good but is affected by direct sun.

I was thinking about this TTO unit from Trail Tech http://trailtech.net/tto_temperature.html. I think Stevespd has one. You can mount the probe where you want, like somewhere in the air scoop (right side) where it's in the shade and shielded from engine heat. It's ugly but it's expensive.
