Well it looks like my ST is close to landing at the dealer. I financed it through my credit union which is offering an extended warranty option. I don't have the details yet as to how much it costs or what it covers. Has anybody bought and extended warranty? What is the warranty that comes with the ST from the factory?

1 year unlimited miles is standard.

If you are going to purchase an extended warranty, i highly suggest you purchase the YAMAHA YES warranty and not some aftermarket one.

You can purchase the yamaha warranty anytime before the original warranty expires, from any dealer.

Dealers mark up the warranty 100%, so negotiate.

PM me if you want to know how much it really costs.

Thanks Bloodline!

I called Yamaha about the YES plan, and after talking to their product "specialists" am totally confused about what happens when you are outside the USA.... like am I covered in Canada? Mexico? Guatemala? Europe? Russia? Africa? I intend to go for the longest term available if for nothing else than peace of mind, and if life allows me to take a couple of the epic trips I've planned for this bike, intercontinental coverage at any Yamaha dealer would be nice.

I don't know the answer to that one.

I've only used the YES plan an outboard motor. I was extremely impressed with the service. $3850 part delivered in 2 days. No questions asked.

If you choose to buy extended, definitely the YES. Talk to your dealer, they should be more familiar.

Out of country? Try a read through the literature the dealer has, and or read whatever is posted at Yamaha's site.

The dealer in TX that some a good number of bikes to forum members on fly and rides had some of the best pricing I have seen, within a very few bucks of anywhere. I don't recall his user name and too lazy to dig, look in the bike order forum. And too, ask him about out of country warranty repairs. I believe the YES to be closer to an extension of factory coverage vs an insurance plan like the credit union and most aftermarket coverages are.

I generally do not buy extended coverage, but I put on enough miles to ensure any kinks are sorted in the first year of ownership. In this case my dealer steeply discounted the YES due to the delay in shipment, so I snared it.

They YES warranty in Canada covers the bike in the US and Canada only. I'm sure the US YES is the same.

That's what I've been told too - YES warranty is only valid for US and Canada.

I wasn't going to get one since I'll be south of the border soon after my standard warranty expires. However I'm rethinking that - I think I could be in Mexico for several months. If problems occur during that time it's possible I could get back to the US for service. Will have to see what I can get a 1yr YES for and weigh the options...

I don't normally buy such things. Let's face it, the seller is planning to make a profit, after administrative costs and the costs of services provided. So, on average it should always be cheaper to avoid such plans. What are these plans? They are insurance. What do they do for you? They reduce your risk. So, what's it worth for you to reduce the risk of a catastrophic repair? How likely is that risk? Can you cover a major repair? If you can live with the risk, over your lifetime, across many products, you will save significant money avoiding such plans.

In the case of the Yamaha YES the plan was so inexpensive that I made an exception. It seemed like a no brainer. But I have to say that is the first time I have ever bought any such plan.

$600 for four additional years.
The credit union warranty was 745 for 40 months, I'm assuming 40 months total. If you paid 600 for four ADDITIONAL years, that's a much better deal. A total of five years for 600 sounds great to me.

I usually only keep my primary bike for 2 to 3 yrs and average about 23,000 miles per year.
I'll buy the Yamaha extended warranty just for the added value when I go to sell the bike.

Guys, I'll post up a group buy in a day or two. We can get 4 years for much less than you can imagine. Give me until Tuesday.

I like the sound of this, I am interested.
Do you suppose that the trip benefits could be used towards a tow to a dealership?

I have had the yes on many Yamaha motorcycles. Must of the time they only used to improve resale however very recently we had a claim on my wifes V-star 1300. It started to seep coolant. It was nine days before the expiration date. Turned out they had to pull the motor completely tear it down and reassemble. Cost was arount $900 and I paid nothing. No hassel no complaints. Yamaha Had just offered a 2 year extention to the yes but it must be purchased before expiration and we did.
Must times you won't need it but when you do it's nice to have and I have it on my Tenere.

Is the 4 years of YES coverage in addition to the factory 1 year warranty (so a total of 5)?

I have never bought a extended warranty, except for a special offer from Ford on our SHO, and it paid for itself many, many times over. So I might be interested in this.
