Thank you for taking the time for the photoshop work. After looking at that for the black with the heatshield and passenger Peg mounts black, I would be tempted to also blacken the little silver heel-guard near the rider peg. It would be very uniform then.
After thinking that, I would be tempted to use the "Black in sunlight" 3M reflective film on all these parts instead of black spray paint for night-time visibility. Don't want to be too stealth in the night! All Black in the day and Highly reflective at night. Contrast all the time!
See what I mean here: http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycles/stickers-decals/motorcycle-reflective-tape-kit.htm

If you sprayed these parts black would you scuff them up with steel wool first so the paint adheres? They make heat resistent flat black paint that would work very well. I was wondering if the scuff marks from steel wool or 3m scrub pads would show through the paint?

If you know someone with a machine shop, they could easily cut a Logo, name, or whatever into the heatshield....

It would depend on the grade. I would first prep the part with Prep Solve to remove any contaminates. Then use a 1000 or 1500 wet or dry sand paper. You just need to knock of the shine. Then Prep Solve and tack rag. That's how I would do it, ymmv.

That heat shield looks great. Like other guys have said, it totally changes the look of the left side of the bike.

I've used Duplicolor Professional Undercoat and Sound Eliminator (rubberized), on the white plastic side panels on my DR 650. The right side cover sits partially over the FMF Q2 pipe which gives off more heat than the stock can it replaced. Works great! Previously I had tried a number of other types of paint and this is the only stuff that works well.

I hit the plastic with 400 sand paper and then put down a coat of plastic prep spray. The undercoat goes over that.

Hey Leaddawg, welcome to the list. ALTRider has sent the bike back over a month ago. It was on loan from Australia. They aren't making a part for the heat shield. They are working hard to get the crash bars and skid plate made. Do you have a Tenere on order? I am from Seattle area and have one on order from Central WA.
Hey, Jeff, definitely working on getting the skid plates and crash bars available, but we are actually making an exhaust heat shield (and other parts, too). :)

Jeremy, any plans to make a part to replace the OEM exhaust heat shield? Not the header pipe, the muffler. The stock silver plastic piece has to go.

Isn't he saying that in his post they are working on a heat shield? Are you speaking of another part or piece?

He said that but the part he referenced is their exhaust header cover. I want something for the muffler, in the rear. The silver plastic piece at the rear.

That is the one. Just thinking AltRider could do a nice aluminum vented piece, much smaller and streamlined, with lines similar to their other parts. Offer it in silver or powder-coated black.

I missed that as well when I looked at his link. I just did a quick glance at the image and ASSumed it was the heat shield for the muffler........... ::)

Funny, I was thinking I needed to find a picture of a Honda CL160/176 heat shield with the long slots in it an post it. Then I see your link and there it is. Cool, going on my list of parts to buy
