Exhaust heat shield

Okay, I have a Raven on order and I love the look of the bike EXCEPT for the ridiculous factory exhaust heat shield. I really think it takes away from the overall design. Can the heat shield be painted or powder coated? I'm thinking that we may see third-party heat shields on the market in the future. If I don't intend to ride with a pillion, couldn't I just remove it?

What's everyone's thoughts?

I've seen pictures of a smaller version made from carbon fiber, it was on a white ST.

Anybody know where to buy one?

Wasp cut his in half and it looks much better with his carbon exhaust. I will probably do the same when I get an aftermarket can. I think Wasp has plans for another exhaust cover as well that will go with his pillion peg mounts.

I think that the exhaust heat shield is the only ugly part of the bike. ??? Hideous I would even say. Something after-market in black is needed.

I am actually thinking of removing the heat shield and the pillion pegs and leaving them off since I will be solo riding exclusively.

The only thing I am concerned about is that I need to put a cover over the bike when I leave it at the airport over night when I go to work. I need to figure out how to put a cover on it while the muffler is still hot.

I will have the Wasp muffler on it, so it will look pretty cool like this. Also, the pillion seat will be removed and the luggage rack lowered to ease carrying my suitcase.

Agreed tha piece looks out of proportion and cheap. I was hoping to hide it with side cases or maby somebody will make a nice drilled titanium ... ::)...or even less expensive aluminum cover. Just enough to keep things from burning

ALTRIDER in Seattle has a bike and they are making after market parts for the bike. I have 3 DL1000 and a Buell XB12X. and a few other bikes. They have ALT RIDER parts on them. The group does a nice job.

Hey Leaddawg, welcome to the list. ALTRider has sent the bike back over a month ago. It was on loan from Australia. They aren't making a part for the heat shield. They are working hard to get the crash bars and skid plate made. Do you have a Tenere on order? I am from Seattle area and have one on order from Central WA.

+1

This seems like the least expensive solution (although I'll probably leave mine as is).

Already got some to paint my Motorrad muffler when it comes in. There should be plenty to paint the heat shield, if I want. ;D

F-ing HOT! If it's not too much trouble, could you do that with a blue one? I'm still thinking about just leaving the heat shield off, since I ride solo, but If black does the same thing to the looks of the blue that is does to the black one, I may paint it and keep it on.

Oh Yeah! That looks fantastic. Thanks! Amazing what a little change in color can do the look of a bike.
