Engine heat, Can you feel the heat?

I am wondering if the heat coming off the radiator is warm, hot or not that bad. I am tired of getting roasted while in traffic and slow commutes. I like a bike where the heat is hardly noticeable and will not cause your legs and riding gear to get toasted. I know most bikes get warm but some are very warm. With this having a unique configuration, I am just curios on how it feels while riding. I like plenty of fresh (not hot) air.

You'll notice the heat coming out of the left side when the fan comes on. It can get warm in slow traffic.

But then again, if this is one of your main criteria for a bike, you're choices are going to be limited... At least the Super Tenere is only warm when the fan is on - a lot of the others are warm all the time...

Couldn't tell you on the Tenere, yet. But my VFR had side radiators and fans, and holy-shit it cooked the hell out of you in the summer. When those fans kicked on the engine heat was pushed right up into the rider's face - it was miserable...

Knowing what the side radiator configuration was like on the VFR, I have no high-hopes for the Tenere. Well, I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised...

Till then I'll - ::021::

I can feel the heat off the radiator on my left knee here in Florida big time!

My 80's design prehistoric gen one 02' KLR, ya don't.
I'd have to say it's a definite complaint about the bike & not happy about it.
On one hand the radiator is out of the front tire from rocks but yamaha could have managed the heat better some way.
The bike seems really well balanced otherwise whether they planned it or not.

It was a pleasant surprise to me that the SuperTen does not put ANY heat on me.. even when the fan comes on, I feel no heat on me at all. I do ride ATGATT, usually wearing a 1 piece or 2 piece Aerostich. In fact, today when I returned home, the temp was showing 212°F on the LCD display and I sat on the bike in the driveway while it was idling and the fan running just to see if I can feel any heat coming off the radiator.. and I did not. ::022::

I've only felt some heat a few times. I think the wind must have been blowing just right at the time. I do wear riding pants and that may help?

Definitely notice the heat on both of our S10s. Usually only when outside air temps rise above 80 degrees F. Mildly noticeable at 80 degrees, unmistakable at 90 degrees, and hard to ignore above 95 degrees. I've never found the fan to have any influence on my perception. Interesting thing is if you press your leg against the tank there is cool air blowing in from between the tank and the radiator shroud. Inside of leg cool, outside of leg cooked.

Try riding a Gen. 1 FJR in 95 deg. heat and you would think the Tenere had an A/C on it. :)

For me this bike is not bad at all with fan on or off. The wife and I have been on the big XT in over 95 Deg heat last year in stop and go stuff and the bike was not the problem the heat of the day was. :'(

I had a 2005 FJR. Never sweat so much between my thighs in my life. S10 is far, far better than a Gen 1 FJR.

In the last few years I had a
ST1300 . Could get beyond the turn you legs red heat and some just couldn't take it,
The ZX14 could make you dizzy in the Austin Heat during summer when around 90 would have been easy to just lay down and rest in the summertime
Honda Gold wing 1800. Lets just say that idling in traffic you were not the only one heating up to boiling point
Super Tenere , yes I can tell at 4 mph the fans kicked on and I can feel more heat . Overall If I had to chose one of these four lets me real The tenere by far the best in heat to ride.

Now lets be clear as you are on a machine that has a motor the size and HP of small cars and the exhaust is close to you as well.
If you want AC during the summer please ride in a car as no motorcycle will ever make you happy they all put out some heat but the naked or near naked seem to put less.
Not counting the Old style V-Twins like Harleys and Honda 1800

After riding 50,000 miles on a Honda Vakyrie, 30,000 miles on a'05 FJR1300, & 5,000 miles on a '09 Concours14 the S10 seems cool!

I rode in 86 degree weather today in the muggy Seattle area in stop & go traffic & even thought to myself how cool the bike was.

Yup. high horsepower motorcycles produce heat.

Even when I get real uncomfortable on a bike, I still feel sorry for those poor saps who are stuck in cages! ::021::

This morning it was 0.6C at work.

I couldn't feel any heat :(

It was supposed to be a balmy 4C... ::001::

Had both a 2004 and a 2007, plus regularly swap bikes or help folks with theirs.

The outside of my left leg can get hot if I'm not in my riding pants and boots. You do notice it when things heat up. IF IF IF I wanted to be annoyed, the sound of the fan gets my attention more. But for a 1200 this thing is great. Further, when it's cool out I take my left glove off and put it aft of the radiator for a little luxury.

I had never noticed heat off the S10 until I was in Savannah this past week - normally I ride ATGATT, but with work meetings only 2 miles away, and not having the chance to be on roads where I'd be going faster than 30, I skipped it. Wearing khakis, there was noticeable heat on my left leg, but it definitely wasn't uncomfortably warm.

Jett City, It sounds like you are thinking of getting a Tenere!! IS this true? As some have mentioned, depending on what you are coming off of, the S10 is noticeably cooler. I came off of a Honda ST1300, and this thing is in fact like air conditioning compared to that. I can't speak for the FJR, but have heard bad things on that one too. So far in my few jaunts in the heat on the Tenere, it is smooth sailing. When do you plan on getting an S10?

Where in WA do you live?

I have noticed on mine that i can only feel the heat (very slight btw...maybe because the desert temps of 115F mask it  ) when the fan is on, or if I position my leg so it is out in the slipstream of air flowing over/around/thru the left cowling. If I tuck my leg in next to the tank, no heat.

For those that are sensitive to the heat maybe some sort of air deflector could be rigged up at the back of the radiator grill to kick the air out further away from the rider...I don't think it would take much, possibly a piece of plastic about a 1" or so taller than the cowling and slightly angled back. Secure it in a couple of spots thru the grill (zip ties would be ideal for testing purposes).

Nothing is perfect, but the S10 does a better job of keeping heat off the rider than any of the ten or fifteen faired/water-cooled bikes I've owned.

Seriously looking at the Raven . I ride the Kawi' C-14 concours and its the first year 2008 . I am north of Seattle in Marysville Wa. and My 'Connie is a hot one, roasting my right leg on the warm days. The S10 looks awesome, a "do it all" bike. I think I would enjoy it.
