Looking at the non-north american wiring diagram, it appears that the 'hazard circuit' & 'flash to pass' circuit are all acomplished in the handle bar switch housing. So it appears you could simply install a euro switch and have those two functions with out any rewiring, assuming the switch harness connector is the same as the north american models.

Can any of our euro friends provide a pic of the left handle bar switch harness connector?
I don't have a manual for my Euro spec bike, so if somebody can give me an idea of where the connector is, I can rock a picture for ya. I'm guessing it might be under that plastic that is under the rider's seat...but I don't want to pull all that stuff for nothing, because it looks to involve unbolting the rear fuel tank mounts.

Have not traced this but I'm guessing it's not far from the switch it's self. This pic should represent the connector shape and wiring colors on the euro models. I guess what we really need to see is this connector on a NA wiring diagram. If it looks the same, with the same colors/layout, then the euro switch would be plug & play.

Just a glance at the wiring for mine shows no connector near the switch that I can see. The wiring seems to run toward the rear of the bike, which is why I'm guessing at those connectors under the seat...could be wrong though.

Would you guys like me to open my handle bar switch and take a few pics?
They're actually wanting to see the connector, but I suppose that wouldn't hurt any.

I'm guessing the wiring coming off the switch runs over to the area under the right side upper panel where the turn signals, lights, etc. run. This pic should give an idea what to look for.

I just pulled mine apart. I also pulled the one on my Kawasaki Versy controller apart to see what the differences were. THe Tenere only has wires in there for the switches and that was it. The one on the versys has all the plugs for hazards and flash to pass. Looking at the wires on the Versys, the wires that go to the head lights and the flash to pass come up from the harness and the colors are the same. The hazards and blinker wire are the same also and both sets come up through the harness. Now my Question is why can't we just get an other controller from another bike and plug in the plugs on the ST into the new controller and just solder jumper wires from the blinker to hazard button and head light switch to the flash to pass switch on the new controler.

that should work, as hazards are simply activated left and right flashers at the same time (see 76 and 77 on diagram) and the pass blinker is a non-retaining high beam switch (see 73)

Can only assume that absence of immobilizer, flash to pass, hazards, and what else (?) is cost cutting on the US bikes. Doesn't surprise me given the vast difference in price accounting for exchange rate. Frankly surprised if Yamaha are even making a profit on US units. Reckon that pricing elsewhere in the world is financing the loss on the US bikes.

Are only the US bikes left out or all North American bikes?

I would like to add this if it truly is a plug and play deal.
My Canadian Tenere doesn't have it, if it's plug and play I want one.

Yes, the Euro switch pod is plug and play. The only diffence is what happens inside the switch assy. All external wiring and connectors are the same. I finally located the connector, It's under the lower RH access panel under a boot with 2 or 3 other connectors. For a truly plug and play install, you'd be cutting a few loom ties to take the old harness loose, then you'd be stringing the new one along the same route...not big deal, but a bit more than just plugging the new pod in.

Excuse me if I'm reading someone's post incorrectly, but has someone actually bought the switch assy, fitted it, and confirmed it works on a US bike? If so, what was the final cost for the assy?

Mark,

I think the factory unit from Europe is a plug-N-play... but its really expensive.. I haven't read anyone in the US buying that unit yet. But yes it should plug right up and work...... There is another gentleman that is using the Kawasaki Versus switch housing that look the same as the Super Tenere but I don't believe that is a plug-N-play unit... I'm waiting for a update on progress from this unit. I believe this is the unit that is less that $50, but again not plug N play....... I think that's where this post sits....

Good BUMP............

Wasn't there a guy that had bought the Suzuki set up and had tried to install it on the ST ? Is that guy still here ?

I think you're talking about me.

I bought a generic pass to flash switch assembly that looks OK and planned a simple plastic dash panel that would provide space for the hazard switch and a few other items. The integrated switch assemblies with both pass and hazard seem to all be pretty big & clunky, or very expensive.

Started to make a "how to" and then got busy with work travel, am just finishing the enjoyment (?) of moving, and of course getting ready for Christmas. In 2 weeks I leave to spend some time in Korea.

Heck with the switch, hand me a bottle. ;)

I finished up my hazard mod last night. I used a switch off a FJR and mounted it to my new dash panel. I ran three new wires from the connector for the factory turn signal switch behind the right side cover up to the new hazard switch to complete my circuit.

Heres the connector.

I removed the three needed wires and soldered my new wires directly to them and then reinserted them back into the connector. You'll need the green wire (right signals), brown wire (left signals) and I think it was the brown with white stripe that comes from the flasher.

Judging from past threads, before anything actually happens in these threads, they need to get to about 90 pages. Most of these guys are snowed in so LOTS of do nothing posts. ::013::
