Hi guys,

I know there is a huge thread and removing power restrictions. I have tried to go through most of it first so please be patient with me. I am in Tokyo and have found a delaer here who can do the ECU reflash. However they speak Japanese only and my Japanese is limited.

I have following questions before I pull the trigger on ECU reflash. Please can you help me with these if you know the answers

Q0) Has anybody here done ECU reflash using ECUunleashed files ?

Q1) I heard the ecu reflash works only for S mode, is this correct ? This isnt a issue for me though

Q2) Super Tenere's power (horse Power) is restricted in gears 1,2 and 3. With ecu reflash will this power restriction be removed in S mode ? i.e. will the bike have full 110 HP in all gears starting from 1 ?

Q3) will the reflash change torque curve too ? answer should be yes but just double confirming

Q4) Will the reflash increase fuel consumption of the bike in S mode ?

Q5) Lastly, I have changed the muffler/exhuast of my S10, just the muffler part not the full pipe. Its exhaust from this company.

The dealer here tried to explian to me that if they dont have ECU (or some) data for the exhaust can I have, they will have to input by imagination ? (he couldnt clarify this due to langauge issue. Please can you let me know how this will work ?

I am planning to visit the dealer and may be give him the bike for upgrade this weekend may be but need to know answers on the above.

About 3 have sent theirs in, one has his ECU back and installed, but not enough test riding to get a full impression. This was from a stateside dealer. How much is the Japanese place charging? Seems like it would be a rip-off compared to sending yours to a stateside tuner.

Q1) I heard the ecu reflash works only for S mode, is this correct ? This isnt a issue for me though

Yes, confirmed by the guys I mentioned above. You can still switch back to T-mode is you wan't something more docile for 2-up riding, wet roads, etc.

Q2) Super Tenere's power (horse Power) is restricted in gears 1,2 and 3. With ecu reflash will this power restriction be removed in S mode ? i.e. will the bike have full 110 HP in all gears starting from 1 ?

YES, do you think anybody would be doing the reflash if that weren't the case?...that's what it's for. ::025::

Q3) will the reflash change torque curve too ? answer should be yes but just double confirming

You said you read most of the thread...somehow I'm having trouble believing that, but yes, the reflash eliminates restrictions on how far the throttle plates will open..especially in the lower RPM range in those gears where the 1200cc motor is capable of a lot more torque. The torque increase is the main 'wow' factor of the reflash.

Q4) Will the reflash increase fuel consumption of the bike in S mode ?

I would guess yes if you are heavy-handed. Your right wrist holds the answer to that question (in large part).

Q5) Lastly, I have changed the muffler/exhuast of my S10, just the muffler part not the full pipe. Its exhaust from this company.

Just adding a can won't throw your mixture off enough to be dangerous or even have any noticable ill effect on how the engines runs. Adding headers is a completely different story. Bringing the bike to the tuning center would still be the best way to optimize.

Short timeline! The gen 2 ECUunleased flash hasn't been out for long, so you are actually one of the first of a few on the forum to do it. If you waited a week or so, you might see more thorough evaluations. It all depends upon whether you want to provide info or just receive. Your choice. I say go for it because you can always have it flashed back to stock if it's not your cup of tea. Somehow I think you're going to really enjoy your bikes 'new attitude. ::013:: 8)

What bothers me is that they don't have a Dino in their shop and they are not sure about how to treat the bike if they haven't got the data about the muffler I have already.

By the way, what's the scoop with gen2 ecuunleash flash ? I can wait for a week, no harm in that for sure.

Tremor, have tried to grasp as much as I can from the other thread but in multiple installments.... Definitely missed some!

The can will make no significant difference to the map, otherwise everyone who fits an end can would have to have an ECU remap. I suggest they don't make any allowance for the can because you will never be able to tell the difference.

Just to echo what somebody else said...about $450.00 before shipping. I would be uncomforable that the place doing your flash doesn't even have a dyno at their disposal...a bit of hit on their credibility IMHO.

I called ECUunleashed today and talked about different flashes. It seems they have maps for a stock bike, one with an aftermarket can, and one for a loaded bike(headers, ect.).

It does seem that there would not be much difference between a stock and after market but it may fuel a bit differently.

I don't think there is much difference between after market cans..

On AF1's order form they ask you what modifications does your bike have.

I told them I have bar risers and a MRA screen. ;D
:D :D

Seriously though, I'm glad you're getting this done because I know we'll get a very objective review.

I am amazed how many ECU topics exist

As the original question was about UK ECU Unleashed dealers I will address that to help any poor sod trawling through the billion posts trying to find this and stumbling across this topic:-

Race Engineering are the UK Unleashed dealer, and as of time of writing have flashed more S10's than anything else (although they have only just taken on the Franchise)

http://www.raceengineering.info/

They were extremely good and honest in my dealings with them and thought the customers corner with the Gen1 Flash issues on modified S10's, as well as putting alot of unpaid hours into running dyno tests and feeding back to Unleashed. Top marks for customer service ::008::

Details of my Flash Results are here...

Again I can tell you have a history of owning KLRs. ;)

You didn't hog out the bar risers for the KLR so they would fit the Super Tenere did you? ::025::

No self respecting KLR owner would spend money on bar risers. I just took them off and found a good size fork in the apple tree and bent the bars up to where I like them. ;)

Hey dudes, i am looking at the ECUnleashed Performance Reflash list and for $449 is it that worth it?? I know it depends on what type of driving you do but with me being stationed in Jacksonville, Fl and all these beautiful coastal places to hit up will my Super Yammi experience be enhanced??? ???

Q0) Has anybody here done ECU reflash using ECUunleashed files ?

Yes lots - there is a long thread on GEn2 Fash results somewhere

Q1) I heard the ecu reflash works only for S mode, is this correct ? This isnt a issue for me though

Yes

Q2) Super Tenere's power (horse Power) is restricted in gears 1,2 and 3. With ecu reflash will this power restriction be removed in S mode ? i.e. will the bike have full 110 HP in all gears starting from 1 ?

Yes, in reality about 86-88 at the wheels - but will be available in all gears, and I believe the flash adds about 4BHP to top end, an end can may add another 2-3 and headers make a big difference giving 6-7 - mine with headers and flash is about 12BHP up on standard

Q3) will the reflash change torque curve too ? answer should be yes but just double confirming

Obviously power is torque multiplied by RPM, the only way to increase power at a certain rpm is to increase torque

Q4) Will the reflash increase fuel consumption of the bike in S mode ?

I get better mpg on my setup, others have reported the same

Q5) Lastly, I have changed the muffler/exhuast of my S10, just the muffler part not the full pipe. Its exhaust from this company.

Silencers do not make much difference to fuelling and I would guess are fairly similar so the Flash should be fine, maybe not perfect, but will still fuel much better than the standard bike.

Yes
This isn't true. The ECUnleashed flash on my bike (2nd gen flash) made a big difference to the T mode. It's still the T mode, but way better. S mode alone would be worth $450.
